Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu recently shared some details about the upcoming sequel. Although Shang-Chi 2 is not on the official slate of upcoming Multiverse Saga projects, it was confirmed and will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also helmed the first film.

Liu discussed the pressure relief he felt working on the sequel, as he is no longer “essentially crafting this character, every single day” while under a massive production budget. He teased that fans can expect “new sides of Shaun’s character and the characters around him,” as well as “the amazing action” that was celebrated in the first film.

What Could the Sequel Be About?

With these hints from Liu, fans can begin to speculate on what the sequel could be about. The ending of the first film set up Xu Xialing as re-forming the 10 Rings, teasing that they “will return” in a post-credits scene. Perhaps this new direction for the character will be explored more fully in the sequel.

Additionally, Shang-Chi and Katy were brought into talks with some key Avengers and allies, so it is possible that the new sides fans can expect will involve Shang-Chi getting used to his new team and new expectations.

Liu finished by teasing that if they can still afford Michelle Yeoh, fans can expect her to return. Yeoh played Jiang Nan in the first film and was praised for her performance.
