The cancellation of DC’s Supergirl and Batgirl by Warner Bros. has been a sad week for comic book fans. Disney is following Warner’s lead, as Disney has shelved Marvel’s Shang-Chi Holiday Special. Bad news came from the film’s star, Simu Liu, through social media. Read on to know more.

Destin Daniel Cretton got a contract with the studio after watching the popularity of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. In light of Liu’s social media post, many people will be let down by Disney.

Disney has chosen to cancel the Shang-Chi Holiday Special because of worries about quality control, said Liu on Twitter.

“I’m sorry to inform you guys that Disney has decided to scrap the Shang-Chi Holiday Special due to quality control concerns.”

According to the actor’s later comments, he had already shot the whole film. Liu reportedly devised an all-gingerbread Ta Lo:

I had already filmed the entire thing. I even designed an all-gingerbread Ta Lo. RIP Shang Chi and the Legend of the TEEEN GOLDEN RIIIIINGS.”

When Will Simu Liu Next Appear As Shang-Chi

When Warner Bros. Discovery was publicly humiliated for canceling the Batgirl movie at the eleventh hour, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings actor Simu Liu poked fun at the situation on Twitter. Understandably, some people didn’t get the joke, and a few pointed out that many people had lost their jobs earlier this week during Batgirl’s cancellation.

The joke was aimed more at Warner Bros. than at the actors and actresses in the Batgirl movie, but most people appeared to get it. The studio is also working on a holiday special for the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Streaming provider Disney+ will air the show, which James Gunn is helming.

There will be a return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff as characters from the previous films. Aside from Simu Liu, no additional cast members’ identities or roles in the next Shang-Chi Holiday Special have been revealed.

Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is expected to helm the next Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which is expected to have at least one cameo by Shang-Chi.
