The highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit animated movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is set to release later this year, and fans are eagerly waiting for it. However, the movie also takes a few jabs at the Sony executives who oversaw the project.

In a recent interview, writer-producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller revealed that they included some lighthearted shots at the Sony executives they reported to while making the movie. The duo lifted their interactions with the studio and included them in the script.

Lord explained that a line in the first movie, where Peter B. Parker exclaims, “He can’t do it on command!” in reference to Miles’ power to turn invisible, came from their attempts to explain Miles’ abilities to studio executives. Similarly, there is a moment in Across the Spider-Verse that includes a conversation between the producers and an executive who asked them to clarify something about a character.

Miller and Lord are on a constant quest to add humor and emotional depth to their movies. Despite the stress of finishing the movie days before its release, they strive to make things funnier or more emotional.

It is amusing that Lord and Miller were able to poke fun at their bosses at Sony in the movie. Many creatives feel that studio notes and feedback can be unnecessary, annoying, or ignorant. The dialogue should fit seamlessly into the comical and irreverent tone of the movie and go unnoticed by audiences.
