Being a Spiderman fan right now is great. The 2000s were a fantastic experience for Sam Raimi’s movies, but they don’t compare to what we have today.

When Spiderman: No Way Home came out in December, it was among the most discussed movies on the internet. With three generations of the Webhead and his live-action adventures, this isn’t a major shock.

In addition to live-action movies, there are a lot of places where the famous wall-crawler has left a mark.

Into the Spider-Verse, even though it was a big step forward for animation, is still one of the best Spider-Man stories ever.

Spiderman and Miles Morales are going to have a new adventure later this year in a proper follow-up.

Miles meets new Spider-Men like Oscar Isaac’s Spiderman 2099 as he travels through different universes in the new movie: Across the Spider-Verse.

Fans of that universe might be able to see a connection between live-action and animated stories because that universe is so well-known.

The Writers Discuss The Spiderverse

Chris Miller and Phil Lord spoke about their animated universe with Josh Horowitz on Josh Horowitz’ Happy Sad Confused Podcast.

They also talked about how it connects to the live-action MCU stories that are shown on TV and in movies.

“The Multiverse is big and wide,”

Miller said when he was asked about the possibilities. Miller also challenged the idea that the two couldn’t be linked:

“In the Multiverse, there is a lot of room for everything. And so on and so on. As long as anything can happen, why would you think that those things are not connected?”

In a joking way, Lord said,

“Everything is possible except for this one thing that everyone wants.”

Though they didn’t say for sure that there was a connection, the two made it clear that it was possible because the Multiverse has so many different ways to connect things.

Horowitz asked them about their animation plans and if they were aware of what would happen in Spiderman: No Way Home.

A lot of stories are told in order to avoid stepping on each other’s toes, as Lord said.

“The Spider-Verse movie and live-action Spider-Mans were both made by Amy Pascal, who was also a producer on both. She has been our main source of information about the Spider-Verse. They all know each other, so we’ve had a sense of what’s going on because they write and direct movies that we like. It’s our goal not to step on each other’s stories and themes by telling a wide range of stories and themes. People want a new and original storey that they can relate to. Everyone should have it.”

Miller made sense of it as a forcible collaboration.

“If you think about it, it’s not a choice. You’re all working together to move this huge, long storey forward, and you’re all in charge of your own little part of it. “OK, we were going to do that but they did it first so we have to think of something else,” is how it works in a film school project. It’s because you’re forced to come up with an off-speed pitch and not do the obvious thing that you often come up with something else that you wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. The first Spider-verse was the same. Playing off of the canon lets you try out new ideas.”

How No Way Home Influences The Future

It’s important for Spiderman: No Way Home fans to keep their minds open after everything that happened there.

People didn’t think five years ago that Tom Holland’s Spiderman would fight Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin in an MCU movie. He was played by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire at the time.

Miller and Lord had said in the past that they had asked Garfield and Maguire for cameo appearances in the Spiderman Movie, but they were turned down.

With how well No Way Home did, it’s clear that these kinds of crossovers have been done before. With its success, the chances that they will happen again go up a lot.

The likes of Tom Holland and Zendaya have said that they would like to be a part of an event like this one.

During the filming of his most recent MCU movie, it’s said that casual talks about what could happen were held.

Now, it seems confident that we’re going to see more Spidermen in action with time to come. It may not be Marvel Studios on the line as their schedule’s already full. Sony looks to get that action in their multiverse setup for their projects.

Sony’s Spiderman: Across the Spider-verse (Part One) is scheduled for December 2022.
