Although a lot of information on the MCU’s future was disclosed at San Diego Comic-Con, it is still unknown whether the events of Spider-Man: Freshman Year happen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe or not.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which was promoted as an origin story for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker taking place before the events of Captain America: Civil War, was probably meant to act as a prologue to Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Spider-Man: Freshman Year Is It A Part Of The MCU?

According to Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming at Marvel Studios, The events that led to and during the Civil War will be followed in Freshman Year up to a certain point before taking a turn in a different direction.
In other words, a fictional narrative that exists in a parallel universe but is close to the MCU.

Freshman Year was revealed to follow the same pattern as Captain America: Civil War. Peter then walks into his apartment for the infamous moment when Tony Stark is waiting for him to grant him the stark internship and fly him to Berlin . But Tony Stark isn’t there to meet him because of events that take place in the multiverse as a result of fresh, random occurrences. The fact that it’s Norman Osborn causes his life to take an unforeseen turn and interact with other unexpected Marvel characters.

Dr. Otto Octavius, Norman Osborn, Harry, Nico Minoru, Amadeus Cho, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, and a number of other characters are expected to feature in the series. The issue is that prior to Spider-Man: No Way Home, none of these characters had been introduced to us. In the MCU, Doc Ock and the Osborns don’t exist, Scorpion shouldn’t be around, and Doctor Strange shouldn’t know Parker or have encountered him so early in the Earth-616 reality.

Longtime fans have undoubtedly noticed Uncle Ben’s absence from the MCU, who is perhaps one of the most recognizdoable Spider-Man characters of all time. He frequently represents Peter Parker’s first loss as Spider-Man and teaches him that, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Aunt May, who dies at the hands of the Green Goblin, says these lines. Even if there might not be any need for an Uncle Ben at all, it will be intriguing to see how the show approaches this issue.

The Origins

Spider Bite
Spider Bite

The radioactive spider bite that Spider-Man encounters is the most well-known event in the entire Spider-Man canon. Both Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Amazing films feature this significant moment. The spider is created in a laboratory in both entries, with the  The Amazing Spider-Man movies connecting the spider to The Oscorp.

Ironically, No Way Home suggests that Oscorp does not yet exist in the MCU. Though it’s more likely that Spider-Man: Freshman Year will take a more imaginative approach to the origin of the Web-Slinger, it’s still feasible that the spider will emerge from a random lab once more.
