The upcoming release of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse from Sony Pictures has a new love story in store for audiences, according to one of its producers. The film will expand the Multiverse with several different Spider-Man Variants, but its core focus will remain on Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy, as in the original movie. Relationships will play a significant role in driving the sequel forward, with Peter B. Parker becoming a father with Mary-Jane, and Miles and Gwen growing closer. As the movie approaches its final moments, Gwen will have an emotional first meeting with Miles’ parents, signaling that this family may be in danger.

Into The Spider-Verse 2 “Is A Love Story

Details about the sequel’s plot were shared in an interview with Empire Magazine by producer Amy Pascal. Pascal emphasized that the sequel should not be bigger just for the sake of it, and revealed that Into the Spider-Verse 2 “is a love story” highlighting the relationship between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy.

Spider-Punk

The sequel will feature a bit of jealousy as well, thanks to Daniel Kaluuya’s new Spider-Man Variant, Hobie Brown, who is better known as Spider-Punk. Co-director Kemp Powers revealed that when Miles sees Gwen wearing Converse Chuck Taylors instead of her usual ballet flats, he becomes concerned about how close she is with this newcomer, leading to some jealousy in the mix.

Writer/producer Christopher Miller likened the movie to the 2022 hit, Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won seven Oscars at the 2023 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Miller emphasized that the film should be focused on an emotional journey, similar to what was done in the 2022 hit movie. He also jokingly teased the idea of a Racacoonie and Kingpin crossover event.

Miles And Gwen

In the first movie, Miles and Gwen’s relationship played a pivotal role, and it’s no surprise to see that it will continue to be important in Across the Spider-Verse. Gwen’s backstory will also see more depth added to it, even as new characters are explored more deeply. The big reveal in the upcoming movie is that Daniel Kaluuya’s Spider-Punk will be something of a romantic rival for Miles.
