The mutant from Black Panther 2 has become such a fan favorite. Fans want the character’s next development to be a solo movie. Well, it might not be so simple because Universal still owns the rights to a character similar to Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk.

And it appears that the complicated licensing rights had an impact on both the possibility of a standalone film based on the character and how Wakanda Forever may have been marketed prior to its debut.

The production of a standalone film based on Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever by Tenoch Huerta has been prohibited, according to Marvel Studios.

One of the most well-liked Phase 4 arrivals among fans is Huerta’s MCU villain.

In light of the complex legal issues involving Namor, Nate Moore disclosed that Namor won’t be appearing in any films following Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

According to Moore, Ternoch Huerta’s Namor “may return”  to the MCU, but not in the form of a stand-alone movie.

In the same sentence, he stated that unless it was part of a series of posters, Marvel Studios was not permitted to use the Black Panther 2 villain in the movie’s marketing campaign.

The character only made a few solo appearances in the run-up to the movie, but they were all included in a collection of character posters for each significant character in the MCU saga.

Moore stated “There weren’t really things we couldn’t do from a character perspective for him, which is good because clearly, we took a ton of inspiration from the source material, but we also made some big changes to really anchor him in that world in a truth that publishing never really landed on, I would argue, in a big way.”

A stand-alone Namor movie or the rumored World War Hulk movie may be produced by Marvel Studios. Disney, on the other hand, would not be allowed to distribute it; that duty would go to Universal. Kevin Feige and team would have numerous reasons not to bother since Universal would then be entitled to a share of the profits.

Feige, meanwhile, only said last month that Namor might get his own solo film, noting that it would depend on how Wakanda Forever was received. It’s possible that the studio is set to purchase the rights given the rumors that they are already working on a Hulk movie.

And that’s probably what will happen with Huerta’s Sub-Mariner. There will be more about him and the Talokan universe, though it might not be in the form of a stand-alone film.
