We have spent two seasons watching Din Djarin track down and then bond with a bounty called Grogu, or as he is lovingly called by the fandom- Baby Yoda.
At the end of season 2, he had to say goodbye to the kid he was looking after for so long because it was time for Grogu to begin his Jedi training with Luke Skywalker. In a recently released poster, the two can be seen building a lightsaber.
However, this doesn’t mean that Din’s troubles are over. In fact, they are very much far from over. After all, he won the fight with Moff Gideon, and so now, he is the rightful owner of the Darksaber as well as the rightful ruler of Mandalore.
So things should be perfect for him from now on right? We don’t think so. After all, Bo-Katan is still after the Darksaber. Now, there’s a new fan theory that suggests that there’s another ancient Mandalorian artifact that could make Din face off against an equally powerful enemy.
If season 3 of The Mandalorian decides to dive into Mandalorian history, just like how Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars have done before, then we could get to know more about the secrets of the planet.
This will give more depth to the planet and also to the story. And, this will all be courtesy of Star Wars Legends. How? Redditor Earthmine52 is all ready to explain that.
The user says that even though the Darksaber is a powerful symbol that signifies the power of Mandalore’s leader, but in Legends, that ruling power over others is signified by a different object. This is done by The Mask of Mandalore.
Each Mandalorian leader would put on the mask and shed their old identity, thus creating an illusion of one leader whose identity is passed down and is maintained through the ages.
The user says that Din Djarin didn’t really recognize the Darksaber as a Mandalorian artifact when he first came across it. This means that the Children of the Watch group that he comes from probably doesn’t see it as a symbol of power and leadership.
So is it possible that they might be believers in The Mask of Mandalore instead? This could explain their strict standards regarding their own facial coverings.
There’s one question that needs to get asked before we move further on- where’s The Mask of Mandalore? In Legends, it was found pretty much thousands of years ago by Canderous Ordo, also known as Mandalore the Preserver.
Know that these events took place way before The Mandalorian. However, we don’t know where this Mask now is. Not to mention, we still don’t know much about the fate of Mandalore as a planet.
Now that Mando has the saber, it’s possible that Bo-Katan Kryze gets the Mask. This would put Din and her on equal footing. Also, there are a lot of meta aspects to this.
Din Djarin, a being she doesn’t even consider to be a true Mandalorian is now the owner of the revered Darksaber. She, on the other hand, could find the Mask of Mandalore and become the rightful leader in the eyes of the Children of the Watch, from where Din comes.
Ultimately, we hope that a peaceful transfer of power could happen as Din becomes the leader of his group of Mandalorians, while Bo-Katan leads hers. But that’s the best possible outcome of this situation. In the worst situation, this Mask could spark another Mandalorian Civil War.
However, this one probably wouldn’t take place on Mandalore at all. But right now, we don’t know what The Mandalorian season 3 will bring. Production has begun on season 3, and it’s reportedly slated for a Spring 2022 release.
As for wait for season 3, perhaps you would like a refresher on the events of the past 2 seasons of the show? Then you can check out both seasons of The Mandalorian streaming on Disney+.
