Ahsoka Tano is one of the most beloved Star Wars characters. Many would count her as one of their favourite Jedis. So when she made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2, minds were blown. Portrayed by Rosario Dawson, it was finally time for the Togruta hero to shine. Lucasfilm thought one episode wasn’t enough, and they were right. Now her streaming show is in the works. And we finally know what genre it will be.

We don’t know what the Ahsoka Tano show will ultimately be about, but thanks to Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, we now know what genre it will fit in. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at D23, the two Star Wars creatives talked about the upcoming Ahsoka show.

Jon Favreau mentioned the kind of shows he thought Andor and The Mandalorian were and then clarified what the Ahsoka Tano show will be. He said:

“You know, you have Andor that is intrigue and a thriller. You have adventure… with The Mandalorian. You know, samurai adventure with Ahsoka.”

That’s not all. Dave Filoni also talked about the Japanese movie that inspired the Ahsoka episode of The Mandalorian season 2. He said:

“Luckily, you know, I think we like the same type of stories. When he was talking about Westerns at the beginning of Mando, I’m like, ‘Yep, I know these.’ And I’m like, ‘I want my episode of Ahsoka in Mando Season 2 to be like Yojimbo.’ He’s like, ‘I love Yojimbo.’ And so we just talk in that language too and that’s the way George [Lucas] and I always talk. We talked about movies. There’s a love of cinema and film that’s part of Star Wars’ DNA, so we keep a lot of that alive as well.”

What Kind Of Samurai Story Will Ahsoka Be?

We can expect the Ahsoka Tano show to carry the same tone of episode 2 of The Mandalorian season 2. We saw stealth attacks, two nomad warriors, and crazy lightsaber fights. If that’s what Favreau and Filoni are planning for Ahsoka, then we are in for a treat.

While we don’t know the plot, we do know that joining Ahsoka Tano on her journey is Anakin Skywalker. Fan favourite Hayden Christensen will be reprising his role. Additionally, Sabine Wren, Hera Syndulla, and Ezra Bridger, last seen in Star Wars: Rebels, might be there too. So maybe we will finally get closure on the hanging plotlines from Rebels? We can only guess.

As for the villain, Thrawn is almost locked to be the main antagonist. But he doesn’t carry a sword. Maybe that will change in the show?

Ahsoka will probably debut in 2023.
