The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series is definitely one of the most anticipated Star Wars projects since Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Announced in 2019, the series will follow Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi as he returns to the role after more than 15 years. The last time he played the role was in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in 2005.

Important Things To Know About The Obi-Wan Kenobi Show

The limited show will be set after a decade of the rise of the Empire, and it will see Kenobi going head-to-head with Darth Vader, his former pupil. This encounter has been described as “the rematch of the century.” The series began production in Spring under Deborah Chow. She has directed two popular episodes of the hit Disney+ show The Mandalorian’s first season.

Vivien Lyra Blair In Obi-Wan Kenobi

The star-studded cast of Obi-Wan Kenobi will be working on both practical sets as well in front of the new groundbreaking technology called The Volume in Los Angeles. If things continue as they are, then the show will definitely drop in 2022. Regarding plot details, those leaks have been scarce even though a few months back, there was a set leak video.

Now, a rumor is circulating that talks about the involvement of family royalty.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Casts Young Princess Leia

Cinelinx has reported that Princess Leia will indeed show up in the series and that she will be the catalyst for Obi-Wan Kenobi’s adventure. Now, Leia will obviously appear as a young girl in the show, and now it has been revealed that Vivien Lyra Blair has been cast in the role. She was previously seen in We Can Be Heroes and Bird Box.

We are not surprised that Leia will be in the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. After all, there were plenty of rumors regarding Leia’s appearance, and Blair’s casting just actualizes them. Also, a catalyst was always going to be needed to spur Kenobi into action since there wasn’t much that Obi-Wan was doing between Episodes III and IV.

That is apart from watching over someone. But that doesn’t make for interesting tv. So there had to be a catalyst that will motivate Obi-Wan enough to leave his hut and take action, and there cannot be a bigger catalyst than a threat to Anakin Skywalker’s kids.

Why Does Leia Act As A Catalyst?

A lot of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s time has been spent looking after Luke and being in solitude. So beyond Maul’s realization of his purpose in Rebels, Obi-Wan has done little during his solitary hermit days. Now, Kenobi has a much closer bond with Luke, but Leia is also important to the galaxy’s future, and so a threat to her could prompt action from the Jedi Master.

Now, what exactly Leia does that catches the Empire’s attention will be interesting. After all, since the show is set just 10 years after the rise of the Empire, so she is just a little girl and her rebellion days are yet to come. Perhaps it isn’t her actions, but an encounter with an Imperial that draws suspicions about the heritage of the kid.

So a disturbance in the Force on this level will be enough to get the crazy old wizard to abandon his post and take on the threats posed to both the kids. Right now, we know that there will be battles with the Inquisitors and also possible run-ins with previous allies. However, the greatest threat to the kids is Darth Vader, and he needs to be prevented from learning about his kids at all costs.

And from what we know, Obi-Wan is ready to do anything it takes to keep their existence a secret. Also, Obi-Wan may meet Leia as well as Bail Organa. After all, the ex-senator trusted his adopted daughter enough to send her after Kenobi to get his aid during the events of Rogue One.

And it seemed like Leia knew more about the Jedi Master than the instructions needed to fetch something. These hints might get explored fully in the show, and it also might help flesh out Kenobi and Leia’s relationship more. Now, how it all plays out will surely be interesting to see.

Expectations are also high because Obi-Wan Kenobi is the only Star Wars project that’s closely tied to George Lucas’ saga. After all, it’s connected to as well as centered around Darth Vader and his kids alone. This has been confirmed even more now after young Leia”s casting. In fact, the connections are way more closer and intimate than the sequel trilogy as well.

This series is shaping up to be a great show, and every new leak or confirmed detail just speaks of that fact. We are sure that when the show will release it will blow everyone’s mind away. Now, we are only waiting for the show to drop on Disney+ in 2022.
