At the end of “The Mandalorian” season 2 we saw Din Djarin hand over Grogu to Luke Skywalker. When that season ended, Star Wars fans were left with plenty of questions. Many questioned if the next season will follow a new Mandalorian or will we see Din on a new quest altogether. But their worries were for naught.
“The Book of Boba Fett” reunited them both and till this day fans haven’t been able to forgive the show for it. So let us see what fans think of that surprise reunion even now.
Jon Favreau Talks About Controversial Grogu And Mando Reunion Scene
In an interview with Empire Online, Jon Favreau explained why they chose to reunite Grogu and Din Djarin so soon. He says that he couldn’t have rebooted the show and started afresh with another Mandalorian again. Also, Favreau believes that contrary to popular belief “The Book of Boba Fett” offered enough time to pass before the reunion. He said:
“We couldn’t just hit a hard reset. It’s going to be interesting to see how this unfolds for people who may not have seen The Book Of Boba Fett. But I think The Book Of Boba Fett offered time to pass.”
The Mandalorian boss further said that this allowed them to ultimately bring both of them together and maintain a relationship everyone loved. He explained:
“You saw what Mando was like without Baby Yoda and we saw what Grogu was like without the Mandalorian and neither of them was doing too good. So them coming back together was a really good plot point that allows us to jump back into Season 3 while maintaining the central relationship.”
Fans Are Angry Over The Decision
While Jon Favreau’s decision does make sense from a storytellers point of view, but not everyone agrees with his choices. One commentator said that the reunion between Grogu and Din shouldn’t have happened in “The Book of Boba Fett.” The tweet says:
nope sorry, as much as it was a great episode it should have been episode one of season 3 of The Mandalorian, it had no place in The Book of Bobba Fett

Another commentator said that the reunion felt too soon and also took away spotlight from Boba Fett. The tweet explained
Regardless of the logic, it still felt too soon for a reunion to me.
As fantastic as those two interlude episodes were in Book of Boba Fett, they sidelined the main character of the series.

Another fans said that the Baby Yoda gimmick is wearing thin and bringing him back was a bad idea. As per them:
They could and should've done a hard reset, Grogu as he is now isn't a character he's a cute gimmick and that cuteness is starting to wear thin, bringing him back so soon and in a different series was bad story telling

Which side of the debate are you on? Do you think the reunion between Baby Yoda and Mando was too soon? Or did it make sense for them to be reunited in the Boba Fett show?
