On 1st March “The Mandalorian” season 3 will join the ranks of the Star Wars shows on Disney+. From “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “The Book of Boba Fett” to “The Bad Batch” and “Tales of the Jedi” among others, the number of Star Wars shows on the streaming service is increasing every year. But Liam Neeson, who played Qui-Gon Jinn in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,” isn’t happy at so much content.

On the February 16 episode of the show “Watch What Happens Live!” Paul Rudd and Liam Neeson talked about various things, one which was Star Wars. When Neeson was asked if he would like to reprise his role of Qui-Gon Jinn again, the actor surprisingly declined.

He said that it’s because the magic of the franchise is getting damaged by its multiple spin-offs. As per Neeson:

“No, I’m not. There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”

When he was asked last year by if he would like to return as Qui-Gon Jinn, the actor said that he will come back only under one special condition. He wanted to return in a movie and not in a TV Show. He said:

“Oh, I think so, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think so…if it was a film. Yeah, I’m a bit of a snob when it comes to TV, I must admit. I just like the big screen, you know? Qui-Gon, I can’t believe it’s 24 years since we made ‘The Phantom Menace,’ I just cannot believe where the time has gone. It was a terrific experience, shooting that film in London.”

Liam Neeson did return in the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” Disney+ series for a small cameo that had a couple of lines of dialogue. But overall, he is right to an extent. Innumerable Star Wars spin-offs have flooded Disney+ within a few years. But that’s not all. There are more coming with shows like “The Acolyte” and “Ahsoka.” Not to mention that there are rumors about Sequel Trilogy spin-offs too.

While some shows like “The Mandalorian” have garnered high viewership numbers and global acclaim, others haven’t been able to carve out a space for themselves. But no matter what way you look at it, Star Wars on Disney+ is getting expanded because it has revived the franchise after the Sequel Trilogy turned out to be disappointing for many.
