Lucasfilm has begun its biggest year till now. They have started the release of the last wave of The High Republic Phase 1’s publishing. Along with this, there are also the weekly releases of their ongoing live-action Star Wars Disney+ show The Book of Boba Fett.

After fans are done following the new crime lord’s latest adventures as he tries to make his mark with his father’s criminal empire, they will get to watch Jedi Master Kenobi during his Tatooine exile in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

After this will come Andor as well as The Bad Batch season 2. All of these shows are scheduled to premiere this year. Even though, the immediate hype will be about the upcoming shows. But there’s a curious eye being kept over the future projects as well.

The Mandalorian Season 3 And Ahsoka’s Release Window

This means that the events that will transpire in The Book of Boba Fett will surely set the stage for season 3 of The Mandalorian which is in production at the moment.

The most optimistic prediction right now is that season 3 might get ready later this year for its premiere. This is because there’s nothing much on Lucasfilm’s slate for the back quarter of the year.

So a November or maybe a December debut (just like The Book of Boba Fett) for season 3 of The Mandalorian could be on the cards. However, this is considering the fact that the visual effects could be completed on time.

Right now, production will soon begin on Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka. This project will also be set in the MandoVerse. Rosario Dawson will reprise her role as the former Jedi with Anakin Skywalker himself. The show will also feature Sabine Wren since the role has already been cast.

There are multiple theories saying that Ezra Bridger and Thrawn will be in the project as well. But there has been no official confirmation right now. If all goes well and shooting begins at the right time, then the show might be released in spring 2023.

The one project that is flying under the radar, for now, is Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte. It will follow a believer in the dark side during the last days of the High Republic era.

Not much has been shared by Lucasfilm officially regarding the show. But a new rumor might indicate when the show might premiere.

When Will The Acolyte Be Released?

Leslye Headland has talked a bit about the show and mentioned that it will be influenced by George Lucas’ vision. She also said that it will explore the politics of the era. But there wasn’t anything she could say about its release date.

Now, the site Bespin Bulletin has recently shared a rumor that suggests that The Acolyte will premiere on Disney+ during the Summer of 2023.

This means that the show will premiere on the heels of season 3 of The Mandalorian since that might premiere in 2022. After that, Ahsoka will premiere in Spring 2023.

2023 Will Be Another Big Year For Lucasfilm

Lucasfilm will have a big year in 2022. But it doesn’t look like it will be a one-and-done thing. 2023 is also looking stacked right now. Going into 2022, The Book of Boba Fett is still airing right now.

In fact, it still has a lot of episodes to release as just 2 have been aired till now. After this comes Obi-Wan Kenobi, which is easily THE most anticipated Disney+ Star Wars show right now.

That is going to be a surefire hit. For the 2023 timetable, Ahsoka will also surely do well. And since Andor will be following it so it might be a great surprise too.

Thankfully, it won’t be an onslaught of just live-action releases from Lucasfilm. The studio will also release season 2 of The Bad Batch in the meantime. As such, this should give ILM a period of about 16 weeks to complete the visual effects work on season 3 of The Mandalorian.

As we said above, if all goes well, The Mandalorian could see a late 2023 release, much like The Book of Boba Fett, which is a late 2021 one. Also slated for release is Lucasfilm Animation and ILM’s project called A Droid Story.

Also, apart from this, there could be multiple unknown projects in the works that we don’t know about right now. These will most probably be revealed during the Star Wars Celebration in May.

As such, it looks like 2023 is going to be a reflection of 2022’s slate regarding the content quantity. Ahsoka will probably drop between March-May, and that might be followed by Leslye Headland’s The Acolyte.

If Acolyte is targeting a summer 2023 release timeframe, then they will have to begin shooting this summer. And since it takes about a year for Disney+ Star Wars projects to release from the date it begins shooting, so the rumor looks to be true.

A story that will take place in a different location of the timeline will surely be appreciated by fans. After all, most of 2022 and 2023 releases like Ahsoka will be part of the MandoVerse narrative.

As such, the exploration of the Sith will be a welcome change. We might even see Andor season 2 in 2023 and maybe season 3 of The Bad Batch. Who knows, we might finally get to see the Crimson Dawn series starring Darth Maul as well.

Will Star Wars Fans Get To See A Movie Soon?

On the theatrical side, either that Old Republic movie or Rogue Squadron might indeed come to theaters then. But since Patty Jenkins has departed Rogue Squadron for now, so that movie is in limbo right now.

So overall, fans should be cautious in regards to theatrical releases. For now, Star Wars fans need to embrace Disney+. It looks like the streaming service will be the home for the galaxy far far away right now.

And if a majority of the shows achieve the success of The Mandalorian, then fans can expect more seasons of their beloved shows, which might be better than a one-and-done movie. What do you think about this? Let us know below.
