After The Mandalorian season 3, and Ahsoka, The Acolyte is also a highly anticipated series. Till now, we didn’t have any concrete information about its plot, except that it was set in the High Republic. And there were rumours about Darth Plagueis being in the show. But now, an official synopsis has been released by Lucasfilm and it has given us more to go on. It reads:

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”

The cast of The Acolyte has been confirmed. We know that Amandla Stenberg, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Lee Jung-jae, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Charlie Barnett are joining the cast. Recently it was announced that Darne Keen and Carrie-Anne Moss will also be part of the cast.

As said before, we don’t know much about its plot. But Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy had previously hinted that the show could bring back elements of the Expanded Universe that has been non-canonized. She said in an interview with IGN:

“What’s wonderful about Leslye Headland is she knows it all. I mean, she’s read a gazillion books inside the Expanded Universe. There are little bits and pieces that she’s drawing from that no one has explored yet in onscreen storytelling.”

Leslye Headland, the showrunner, had expanded upon her plans for the show in an interview with The AV Club. She said:

“We’re all just following in George’s footsteps. He is such a deep worshiper of film, and not just the medium of film, but the history of film and the way film has been used…And that goes for ideology as well. I mean, it’s funny, because a lot of the feedback that I’ll get—and I use the term feedback very lightly—but when I do go on social media, the feedback is ” Don’t make Star Wars political.” I’m like, “George Lucas made it political. Those are political films.””

So we can definitely expect a show that delves into the politics as well as religion of Star Wars. And considering the fact that Headland is a huge Star Wars fans, we can expect something interesting.
