Season 2 of The Mandalorian ended with a bang because of that Luke Skywalker cameo. But as far as surprises go, that wasn’t the only one Lucasfilm had in store.
Before viewers could calm down and fully grasp Luke’s appearance, the post-credits scene showed Fennec Shand and Boba Fett claiming the throne in Jabba’s Palace.
This scene was followed by the title card announcing The Book of Boba Fett and its 2021 December Disney+ release. This reveal excited but also confused fans since many were expecting season 3 of The Mandalorian and not a new show about Boba Fett.
After the announcement, Lucasfilm clarified that The Book of Boba Fett was an additional spinoff show set in the currently developing MandoVerse. So ultimately audiences were getting a new show along with season 3 of The Mandalorian.
After this clarification, interest in Boba’s solo show began to grow. Right now, The Book of Boba Fett is chugging along at a brisk pace and is in the middle of its run.
But fans are still eagerly waiting for Din Djarin and Grogu, especially because they are rumored to show up for a cameo on Boba’s show. And now there’s a possibility that it might indeed happen if events from Chapter 4 of The Book of Boba Fett indicate it.
The 4th episode of The Book of Boba Fett is titled “The Gathering Storm.” In the episode, we get to know how Boba saved Fennec Shand after the events of Chapter 5 of The Mandalorian. Also, the episode set the stage for the upcoming battle between the Pykes and Boba.
But as for Din Djarin and Grogu, the coordinated timeline between The Mandalorian’s fifth episode and the flashback wasn’t the only reference to Mando.
Early on in the episode, we see that a huge flash from Din’s flash charges blinded Fennec’s scope during Chapter 5 of The Mandalorian. But this time we, got to see this from Boba’s perspective.
Even though Mando didn’t shoot Fennec, his actions led Boba to her and this eventually led to their partnership. But still, that’s not the only example in this episode where Din Djarin’s presence is felt.
In Chapter 4’s final scene, Boba and Fennec can be seen discussing the fact that they need more muscle ahead of the impending war. She says, “Credits can buy muscle if you know where to look.”
When she goes out of frame, we hear The Mandalorian’s theme, and Boba is considering this option. This could hint at a Mando cameo in the upcoming episode.
These little details from Chapter 4 of The Book of Boba Fett have piqued fan attention. But these aren’t the only evidence fans have of a Mando cameo.
In an interview, Temuera Morrison was asked if Pedro Pascal’s Mando would show up in the series, similar to how we saw his Boba Fett in The Mandalorian. The lead actor said that he “can’t say anything.” But along with this, he teased “some wonderful, colorful things to look forward to.”
Now, Morrison didn’t give much away. But it’s certainly telling that he didn’t outright deny the possibility either. Along with this, episode 3 of the show also tied into The Mandalorian’s timeline.
The episode showed the same stormtrooper helmet on pikes in Mos Espa and also Amy Sedaris’ Peli Motto walking with her prequel-era pit droids. So it does seem like Lucasfilm is connecting the two shows even before Boba Fett’s recent episode.
If Din Djarin shows up in The Book of Boba Fett, it would help reveal some things. The last we saw of Mando was with Dark Saber after he let Grogu go with Luke Skywalker.
Since he is without Grogu and a ship now, so Din’s future is a huge question mark right now. But if he does come to Boba’s aid, then his presence will provide some answers before the third season of The Mandalorian.
It’s possible that Mando won’t be the only one who cameos. Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze was also seen with Din Djarin at the end of season 2. But since she wants the Dark Saber, so their relationship might have become strained.
Right now, the show is focusing on the Pykes and crime syndicates. So fans have been looking out for someone like Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra. The character was last seen at the end of the Solo movie as Crimson Dawn’s leader.
Along with this, there are rumors of Harrison Ford showing up due to his and Boba’s history in the original Star Wars trilogy. But that’s not all. There are wilder fan theories that state that Mace Windu will be on the show.
These theories are all sprouting up due to The Mandalorian’s tradition of doing cameos. And from what we have seen in The Book of Boba Fett, it’s pretty safe to assume that there will be at least one appearance of a familiar Star Wars character in the future.
Which one will it be? And will it be just one? That remains to be seen. You can check out new episodes of The Book of Boba Fett on Wednesdays on Disney+.
