DC Studios co-lead James Gunn has confirmed that Steve Agee will be returning for the first live-action DCU series, Waller. Agee played John Economos, an ARGUS agent, in The Suicide Squad (2021) and Peacemaker. Waller will follow the character of Viola Davis, who was first introduced in 2016’s Suicide Squad. The show will be a continuation of Peacemaker’s first season, but it’s unclear whether everything played out in the first season is canon.
Agee’s Return To DCU
Steve Agee is known for his role as John Economos, and his return to Waller is an organic next step for him. Gunn confirmed Agee’s return on Bluesky, a new social media platform, where he introduced Agee to his followers. He casually dropped confirmation of Agee’s role in Waller, saying, “My friend [Steve Agee] – aka John Economos from Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad and upcoming on Waller – is now here. Welcome him bluesky fam.” Gunn also confirmed that Bluesky is his real account on Twitter.
King Shark’s Fate Unknown
Agee also provided the physical on-set performance for King Shark in The Suicide Squad, but it’s unknown if or when the character will appear again. It was previously confirmed that Agee would be returning to the new DCU, but details on where were not provided. Agee’s role in Waller will likely be similar to his previous appearances, but with Amanda Waller as the titular character, there may be a more extended reckoning for what Economos did to her during the events of The Suicide Squad, provided it’s canon.
