Suicide Squad director David Ayer recently expressed regret over a particular decision made regarding Jared Leto’s Joker in the 2016 DC blockbuster.

Controversial Joker

Jared Leto‘s portrayal of the Joker received mixed reviews from audiences and critics, with many criticizing his minor role, heavily tattooed appearance, and the actor’s performance.

Regretful Decision

Ayer revealed on Twitter that the “damaged” tattoo on Joker’s forehead, which garnered significant backlash from fans, was a decision he regrets.

He explained that the tattoo was meant as Joker trolling Batman after losing his teeth to Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight. But admitted that it was the “one aesthetic choice [he wishes he] hadn’t made.”

Interference From Warner Bros

Ayer also commented on the mistreatment of Leto’s Joker character. Stating that the studio interference was responsible for hacking his performance and character arc to pieces.

Joker’s Future

Leto’s Joker made a brief appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Where his tattoos were covered by clothing. But it is unclear if he will reprise the role in future DC films. With James Gunn’s recasting of Affleck’s Batman, a new actor may be brought on to play the Joker in future films.
