DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn has confirmed that Jimmy Olsen, a character from Superman’s comic history, will appear in the upcoming Superman: Legacy film. Gunn, who will write and direct the new movie, has also confirmed that he is looking for a new actor to play Superman’s iconic villain, Lex Luthor.
SupermanTo Fight The Authority
Rumours suggest that the new film will see Superman fighting The Authority in his first solo movie since Man of Steel in 2013. Gunn and his team are currently formulating the cast of the movie in his Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters slate.
Jimmy Olsen’s Character
Jimmy Olsen is depicted in DC Comics as a young photographer working at the Daily Planet alongside Clark Kent and Lois Lane. He occasionally assists Clark during his superhero exploits. Unfortunately, the character hasn’t been utilized to much effect on the big screen in recent years. In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he only had one scene where he was a CIA operative posing as a Daily Planet photographer.
Opportunity For Jimmy Olsen
Superman: Legacy will tackle Clark Kent’s early days as a reporter and a superhero. The inclusion of Jimmy Olsen in the movie offers a real chance for the character to shine on the big screen for the first time since Superman Returns in 2006. With pre-production set to begin soon, fans can expect news on casting for Jimmy Olsen soon.
