The third movie of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is finally in the works. The film has finally begun production after years of delays and much discussion. It will have been six years since Vol. 2 when the film enters theatres.
As simple as it is to dwell on that fact, fans are finally receiving the next chapter in the Guardians of the Galaxy story. The last time the group appeared on screen was in Avengers: Endgame, so it’s about time they got their due. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, and Zoe Saldana are all reprising their roles. Will Poulter, a newcomer, will play Adam Warlock, the character teased in the last post-credits sequence of Vol. 2 all those years ago.
It’s easy to overlook two essential players participating in the Guardians projects: Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. Both contribute critical vocal work, with one portraying Groot and the other Rocket. They never do any promotion, so their names aren’t even associated with the initiative. They appear to be so disconnected that neither of them has ever been on set.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn’s answer to a fan’s comment on Instagram revealed an intriguing truth.
“Neither Vin nor Bradley have ever been on a Guardians set,” the filmmaker claims:
“@arnav_gupta_1004 Rocket’s acting and motion capture is always done by @thejudgegunn [Sean Gunn]. The voice is done by Bradley. Neither Vin nor Bradley have ever been on a Guardians set.”
After all these years, it’s incredible that neither Vin Diesel nor Bradley Cooper has ever set foot on a Guardians of the Galaxy set. Even if they voiced the characters, you’d think they’d visit them at least once or twice. Cooper, more than Diesel, has nearly never spoken openly about his time as Rocket Racoon.
Regardless of how great the character is and how important he is to the MCU, the actor playing him couldn’t be further from the part. For the record, that’s not horrible, but it’s certainly unusual. With all the speculation about Vol. 3 possibly being Rocket’s film, maybe Cooper will drop by for a day or two to say hello to his other Guardians–– especially since this will be James Gunn’s final outing with the gang.
On May 23, 2023, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released in theatres worldwide.
