Tom Holland is known for being the swinging friendly neighborhood Spiderman in the MCU. But it’s not known by many that he tried to be a part of a galaxy far far away as well. In a recent interview, Tom Holland revealed that he auditioned for a role in Star Wars, but ended up botching it.
Want to know about the role he botched? As well as why he botched it? Then read on below.
Why Did Tom Holland Botch His Star Wars Audition?
Tom Holland revealed in an interview with Backstage that he bumbled up his Star Wars audition. He said that he had gone in to audition for Finn, but ended up botching it.
The actor says that he botched the audition because he just couldn’t stop smiling and laughing hysterically at the person imitating the BB2 droid at the audition. He elaborated by saying that after 4 to 5 auditions for Finn, he had to act alongside a woman whose role was to say bleep and bloop in response to his line.
So if it feels funny for you to read and imagine the scenario, one can only imagine how funny it must have been for Holland to act it out. In the full quote he says:
“I was like four or five auditions in, and I think I was auditioning for John Boyega’s role. I remember doing this scene with this lady, bless her, and she was just a drone. So I was doing all of this, like, ‘We gotta get back to the ship!’ And she was going, ‘Bleep, bloop bloop, bleep bloop.’ I just couldn’t stop laughing. I found it so funny.”
Tom Holland Felt Really Bad For Laughing
Holland is known among his fans for being a sweet guy. It seems like this reputation is true as well since he says that he felt bad for the woman since she was trying hard to be convincing for the drone role. In the quote he says that he:
“I felt really bad, because she was trying really hard to be a convincing android or drone or whatever they’re called.”
John Boyega Was Finn In The Star War Sequels
Later on, Holland said in the interview that he obviously didn’t get the role and that the audition clearly wasn’t one of his best moments. Instead, as we know John Boyega got cast as Finn in the Star War sequel trilogy in 2014. Boyega starred as Finn, a stormtrooper numbered as FN-2187 in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie in 2015.
The role catapulted Boyega to stardom and he then again resumed his role for Star Wars: The Last Jedi as well as Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2017 and 2019 respectively. Boyega said in 2020 that he wasn’t coming back for the role and that he had moved on.
Many suspect the reason for this being the comments and harassment from racists who felt that he as a black man shouldn’t play a stormtrooper.
Tom Holland Found Luck In The MCU
Although he couldn’t land the role of Finn in Star Wars, he did land the iconic role of Spiderman/Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He debuted in Captain America: Civil War and has since then went on to essay the role on 4 more movies including his standalone Spidey movies.
Currently, Holland is busy filming the last movie in his Spider-Man movie trilogy. So while he missed out on becoming a part of the Star Wars universe, but he is now a proud Spiderman.
