Episode 5 of “The Last of Us” continues right where Episode 4 left off, with Joel and Ellie being held captive by Henry and Sam, a young man and a kid. In this brand-new episode, we receive more insight into Kathleen and her uprising against FEDRA while also learning more about Henry and his past deeds. Episode 5 of “The Last of Us” features plenty of action and thrills, but it also has dramatic rollercoasters and superb narrative, which has been a trademark of every episode so far.

Episode 5 Begins Where Episode 4 Ends

We pick up where Episode 4 left off, with Henry and Sam holding Joel and Ellie at gunpoint. Our protagonists are appropriately alarmed, despite the fact that this is much less terrifying given that we know they are out of ammo. Although there are swarms of Infected waiting below the surface, they forge an awkward partnership after Henry informs Joel about a passage to escape the city via underground tunnels.

The four finally escape and feel at ease after navigating the tunnels and resting in an empty daycare. They are then forced to take cover after a sniper opens fire from a house. They had already alerted Kathleen and her team by the time Joel got there and neutralized the shooter.

When Kathleen shows up, Henry is on the verge of giving in when a terrible turn of events occurs: a sinkhole erupts, exposing dozens of infected. They decimate Kathleen’s team, and Ellie can only flee with Joel operating the sniper rifle. Even after Henry and Sam are trapped underneath a car by a few Infected, she manages to save them.

The Sad Ending

Sam and Ellie develop a friendship after fleeing to a hotel, and then Sam reveals to Ellie that he was bitten. Ellie attempts to use her resistant blood to cure the wound, but she is unclear if it will be successful. She decides to stay up with him, but eventually falls asleep. Sam is perched on the side of the bed as she awakens. He turns completely around and charges at her. Joel and Henry barge in after hearing Ellie’s cries for help. Joel is restrained by Henry at gunpoint and told that his brother should shoot Sam instead of him. Sam is shot by Henry, who then turns the gun on himself out of disbelief.

Before leaving for Wyoming, Joel and Ellie bury the two brothers. They are now even more aware of how horrible this world can be and what kinds of painful judgements may be in store for them.

How Was Sam Infected

The plot is the same as in the first game, but there are some noticeable differences. Sam is bitten in a similar moment in the video game The Last of Us, right after Joel kills the sniper who was holding Henry, Sam, and Ellie down. The Hunters, led by Kathleen, who is portrayed by Melanie Lynskey, catch up to their hunt in the videogame, attracting the notice of an infected horde, which leads to Sam being bitten.

Following this, Ellie decides to leave Sam alone for the night because the game presents Sam as being significantly more unhappy about life than he actually was. Sam assaults Ellie the following morning after contracting the Cordyceps infection, forcing Henry to kill his own brother. While many of these components are identical, there are two key distinctions in how Sam’s terrible conclusion is portrayed in The Last of Us episode 5. One of them is that Sam tells Ellie about his bite, which isn’t something that happens in the game. The second is that Ellie tries to treat Sam with her blood after Sam’s confession.

Sam would still be gone if Ellie had used reason rather than giving in to her anxiety. But Henry had a chance of surviving. Henry may have gained some peace from Sam before the Cordyceps seized control of the boy’s mind if he had known what was about to happen in advance. Additionally, Joel might have carried the responsibility of ending a life, sparing Henry from the trauma of his acts. Of course, expecting a fourteen-year-old girl to behave calmly and sanely in a dire situation is unrealistic. Ellie is very well aware that she is intensifying the situation despite this. She apologizes to Sam at his grave for this reason.

We don’t exactly witness Joel and Ellie burying the brothers in the videogame; in fact, Joel tells Ellie to never bring up the brothers again. Here, it looks to be a little different because Ellie’s eagerness to continue their journey after experiencing such a catastrophe has surprised Joel, showing how their chemistry is changing.

We are aware of one thing: Henry and Sam’s narrative will have an emotional impact on the rest of the series, even though Kathleen won’t be returning.
