According to Ramsey, filming for the second season is expected to start later this year, with a possible release date in “end of 2024, early 2025.” The production for the first season was a mammoth task and took a full year to shoot, beginning in July 2021 and ending in January 2023. However, it is possible that the second season’s production cycle may be shorter, making a late 2024 release possible.

Craig Mazin, the showrunner, has confirmed that the storyline of The Last of Us Season 2 may be “fairly different” from the game’s events. The first season took a similar approach, deviating from the game’s storyline in some ways. Nevertheless, Ramsey will reprise her role as Ellie, and Pedro Pascal will play Joel.
