The Mandalorian, which debuted in 2019 alongside Disney+, not only infused new life into the Star Wars property, but it also demonstrated to fans and Lucasfilm that this medium is the way forward. The Mandalorian became a pop-culture sensation following the appearances of Mando and Grogu/Baby Yoda, and it only grew in popularity in its second season. And, nearly two years after Season 2 ends, fans are eagerly anticipating Mando’s third chapter.

Following the roles of Din Djarin and Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett, fans expected Obi-Wan Kenobi to be the next Star Wars series to air. However, there has been conflicting information on when Season 3 of the original Star Wars Disney+ series will air, with rumors ranging from Giancarlo Esposito’s Moff Gideon suggesting a summer 2022 premiere to rumblings of a December premiere.

The Mandalorian Season 3 Reportedly Changes Filming Plans

Lucasfilm has finally confirmed when the galaxy’s favorite foster father and son will be returning to fans’ screens as part of Star Wars Celebration 2022. Lucasfilm announced at Star Wars Celebration that Season 3 of The Mandalorian will premiere on Disney+ in February 2023, confirming earlier rumors that the show’s third season had been postponed. The show’s February premiere is a deviation from the show’s usual fall release schedule. Season 1 premiered on November 12, 2019, and Season 2 on October 30, 2020, respectively.

Lucasfilm released a teaser trailer for the show’s third season, including Carl Weathers’ Greef Karga, Omid Abtahi’s Dr. Pershing, and Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze, who is on the hunt for the Darksaber. The clip also proved what many Star Wars fans had suspected: Mando’s journey to Mandalore as a result of his removal of his helmet in Season 2.

While it’s true that Star Wars fans would prefer Season 3 of The Mandalorian to premiere before February 23, 2023, Mando material is no longer the sole live-action programming available on Disney+. In addition to The Book of Boba Fett, which ended earlier this year, Obi-Wan Kenobi will premiere on May 27 and Andor will premiere on August 31. There’s also a chance that an animated series will premiere in 2022.
