New data reveals that The Mandalorian Season 3 is experiencing a decline in demand, struggling to match the popularity of its earlier seasons on Disney+. Despite high anticipation for the show’s return, the latest season has proven to be divisive among audiences and may have faced a struggling premiere.
Parrot Analytics, a service that measures audience engagement through social media and other platforms, reports that the demand for Season 3 has reached an all-time low. While Season 3’s demand is similar to that of Season 2, it has failed to match the peaks of Season 1. The decline of The Mandalorian becomes clearer when compared to other shows in their first 30 days of airing. Season 1 still holds the peak with a demand of 99.2x the average, dropping to 70.1x for Season 2 and 68.8x for Season 3.
The Mandalorian Still A Hit
Despite weakened interest, The Mandalorian remains a popular show on Disney+, outpacing every other Star Wars show. Samba TV, which collected data from a panel of three million US households, also indicates a drop in viewership since Season 2’s debut.
Why The Mandalorian Season 3 Struggles
The Mandalorian was a cultural phenomenon upon its debut as a big-screen franchise that shifted to a streaming show. However, with the rise of other streaming platforms and more movie-level-budget shows, it’s no longer the only blockbuster original show on Disney+. Additionally, the show has seen a dip in quality, and the lead actor, Pedro Pascal, has had overlapping production schedules with The Last of Us. Lastly, the third season has had little fan service to offer, which can have an impact on online and social media engagement.
The Mandalorian Season 3 may not have lived up to the hype, but it’s still a massive hit, surpassing every other Star Wars show. Although it has seen a decline in audience demand, it’s not to say that the show won’t recover or end up being a favorite for new fans. The first six episodes of The Mandalorian are now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
