Mandalorian is one of the most successful Disney+ shows. This Star Wars show has done really simple but evergreen messages at heart- of friendship, helping others, and parental duties. Even people who rolled their eyes at the too-large Star Wars canon found themselves tuning in every week to watch this show where a stranger shows up to help others.

As such, these simple concepts told in a unique way has made many people connect with the show more intimately. Also, the fact that the show exists outside of the Sith, Jedi, Empire, Rebel conflicts has made even casual tv show watchers dutifully follow it. However, the show has truly entered the Jedi and Sith conflicts with Luke Skywalker showing up for the season 2 finale.

As such, it’s now possible for the show to do anything it wants. So it’s very possible that The Mandalorian will intersect and tie into the larger Star Wars canon. We actually have given some thought to this and it turns out that the show can adapt a very well-loved storyline from the Legends novels (which are non-canon now).

But it won’t be a simple plot adoption. The show can indeed change Star Wars forever with this.

Is The Mandalorian A Show That’s Canon To The Legends?

Lost Legends refers to a non-canon series of novels that explores the various lores of beloved stories. Now, Redditor u/kammzammzmz has brought forth a compelling argument. The entire synopsis of the argument is that the Disney+ show The Mandalorian actually fits into the Legends canon rather than of Star Wars.

The Redditor’s theory further explains that The Mandalorian is actually a prequel to the Lost Legends series. In fact, the theorizer put the show as taking place before the entire Thrawn trilogy (by Timothy Zahn) that takes place after the Return of the Jedi.

What Is The Theory?

The theory explains that Moff Gideon was just a predecessor to Thrawn’s mega master plan at creating clones who were force sensitive but didn’t go insane. Now, just like Palatine cloned himself once he suffered major physical damage, Thrawn in the novels tries to clone the Jedi. However, the attempts only lead to hostile and insane beings called Luuke (the Luke Skywalker clone) and Joruus C’baoth.

Now, Thrawn was known as being the best villain of Legends. But since he showed up in Rebels, he is now a part of the canon. Also, this directly connects to Ahsoka Tano’s reveal in the show as well as her words that the light-side warrior was searching for him. So this confirms that Thrawn is living in the Star Wars canon universe now. Now note that the original source series said that he was using clone technology.

As a result, it makes sense that in future stories involving Thrawn, we will see clones. Now, this does tie into baby Yoda who is getting trained by Luke himself. After all, the imperial forces have been looking for his blood. But to explain it more directly- it means that Thrawn could very well search out Grogu’s blood and use it for cloning. Thus, a Thrawn trilogy could be set up once again.

But that’s not all.

In the Thrawn trilogy, Moff Gideon could show up and work with Thrawn. Also, Ahsoka could finally meet the man she has been searching for and who posed such a huge threat to her allies and herself during Rebels. We could also see Thrawn taking Grogu with him and carrying out the cloning beyond the fake proto-Snokes of season 2. After all, we all know the famous saying- want to do your job right? Then get it done yourself.

The Mandalorian is already turning out to be a show that has revolutionized Star Wars. This critically acclaimed show has a large fanbase who are always theorizing about what’s going to happen next. So it’s logical that the next step will be live-action Thrawn. But will it end up happening? That only season 3 can tell.
