Warning: Spoilers Ahead for Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness
“We must tell him the truth”
Didn’t catch what we meant? Or, maybe you haven’t seen the trailer. Well, here you go.
The trailer dropped during the 56th NFL Super Bowl League event and the first poster for the movie was released too.
The trailer opens to eye-watering, mouth-wide, goosebump rides that you as a Marvel fan may experience this May.
So let’s break down this trailer.
We’ll keep it simple and we shall bring you more details on what the trailer had in store for us.
Trailer Breakdown
The trailer opens to Strange in his legendary cape, as in the comics in a secluded area. He stands in front of a tall gray building with a lake surrounded. The colors and vibes do give off an eerie feeling.
Strange walks through a dark, foggy building and it does resemble a dark and evil imagery of the Sanctum Sanctorum. The steps we saw in the first trailer as he makes his way up are shown here completely. This could be the Sanctum Sanctorum for the evil Variant of Strange.
Frames shift and we see an almost clear version of Defender Strange in the shot falling through the star portal of America Chavez.
The New Spot also gave more shots of the movie that weren’t included in the trailer.
Getting Back, The scene speeds up with the torments of Strange and an explosion at Kamar Taj which also gave us our first look at Rintrah.
Strange is seen hanging hands and legs tied in the same portal of him, with Chavez facing a fiery monster. More on that will be covered later.
As the trailer progresses, it’s all nightmares for Strange, but it’s turning into reality.
He says,
“The Nightmares begin”
The classic rendition of the Marvel Studios Logo appears in hazy blue. He is being questioned by Mordo in a voiceover. The city is breaking as the multiverses collapse like the way it was in What If…
We see Doctor Strange captured and cuffed, being escorted by the Iron Legion (which might lead us to think, who made these? A multiversal variant of Iron Man?) in a building that is more futuresque and lawful. This is the Illuminati, a group of people created by Strange himself (Ironical) to keep a hold on to the Infinity Stones.
Doctor Strange walks into a room of strange men sitting in tall chairs, unclear to be fair, as we see Mordo walk across.
Well, he is to be questioned for his acts of traveling and meddling with the multiverse; but by whom?
Until we hear a nostalgic voice,
“we should tell him the truth”
The voice of Charles Xavier played by Patrick Stewart!
We then enter into a new dimension, a visual spectacle of Strange’s body breaking along with Chavez into cubes.
We also see them both cross the multiverse through what looks like Savage Land? It was actually rumored that Marvel Studios was creating a Savage Land show for Disney+. You can spot a dinosaur in the vicinity.
Our Strange and Evil Strange interact. Wanda is seen battling a “Captain Marvel” like figure.
The trailer progresses to Strange and Chavez in New York fighting Gargantos. Christine is getting married and that’s been interrupted by Gargantos.
And Kamar Taj being blown up. Wanda and Strange converse on how her heroism led her path to villainy.
Strange stares at a statue of him, but we aren’t sure what universe he might be in.
Chavez is seen battling it out with her powers. Scarlet Witch cries in front of an evil Wanda at the house, which could have been the same from Wandavision.
She does mention Vision, too, in the meanwhile, to Strange. Evil Wanda is seen having a dark scar on her forehead, the same way the Ancient One had in the first Doctor Strange movie in 2016.
The scene zooms into the eye of a bloodied Wanda, like the classic Raimi shot of Doc Ock in Spiderman 2.
Main Titles appear and we see Wong screaming out Strange’s name as he struggles to hold on to something. We see a variant of Strange (Zombie Strange) protruding his arms, like in Infinity War, releasing his inner demons in the most epic way possible.
What The Live Action Brings From What If…
We saw a lot of Doctor Strange in this trailer, and by that we mean, a lot! What If… gave us a zombie episode of Strange and Wanda and the live-action shows us those two. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Feige wasn’t kidding when he said that the movie would bring an element of the paranormal to the MCU.
The horror is real. The MCU is really taking a new step forward by changing the perception of fear in the audience. It is still not clear who is whom and what their roles could be in this mind-bending sci-fi, adventure, thriller… no genre can describe this movie than being sensational in all respects.
The Official Synopsis states:
