Thor 5 has already been rumored even before Thor: Love and Thunder hit theatres, but Chris Hemsworth has said that the character’s upcoming outing might be his last in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Along with Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Thor has established himself as one of the three original Avengers still prominent in the MCU. But nothing endures forever, and sometimes even gods must pass on their mantle. That day might be coming close for Hemsworth.

Chris Hemsworth has hinted that his upcoming film may feature the death of Thor.

It appears as though the actor is willing to give up Stormbreaker after 11 years of portraying the magnificent God of Thunder, most recently in Love and Thunder.

Hemsworth acknowledged that he is unsure of Thor’s status when questioned about his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, adding: “If people wanted to hear what I had to say, I believe there would be more to say.”
“Look, if there is something special, innovative, or surprising to do with the character or the setting, I’m totally open to it.”

I’ve always enjoyed the experience and have been grateful for the opportunity to try something new each time.

Chris Hemsworth demanded that Thor’s character arc be properly wrapped up, much like Captain America and Iron Man.

If I did it again, I feel like we’d have to call it quits, you know what I mean? I believe that it probably justifies that. I have a feeling that it would be the end, but I have no information or plans to back up my intuition.

“You have the hero’s birth, journey, and death, and I’m not sure if I’ve reached that point yet.” No one knows.

Future Of Thor

Thor is a founding member of the Avengers, and Marvel Studios would never just abandon him. not without giving them at least a decent sendoff. But is Thor’s death actually the next step?

He needs to take care of Hercules, an Eternity-born child, and two significant Avengers movies. That sure sounds like the character has a lot more to do.

Even just having Thor retire might not be in line with the character. Before filming Love and Thunder, Hemsworth stated in an interview that “Thor is just 1500 years old.” Thor is far too young to be retiring.

Although there isn’t much information available at the moment, there are already a number of theories on Reddit about how Thor would leave the MCU. Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, has previously made hints that he will hand the MCU baton to the next group of characters. Thor being reunited with his brother and Jane Foster in Valhalla may be the method to pull at the emotions, much like Tony Stark’s death in Endgame did for Kevin Feige and company.
