Netflix recently released the very first teaser for season 2 of The Witcher. Now it doesn’t reveal anything about the plot or show any kind of new characters. But it does have some possible clues about the story that’s going to be told and the path that certain characters will be taking.

Created by Andrzej Sapkowski, a Polish author, The Witcher is a book series consisting of novels and short stories. These were so popular that they branched off into other media like video games. Thus, the fanbase expanded all over the world. Later on, the books got adapted into an English language live-action tv series thanks to streaming behemoth Netflix.

From the moment the live-action adaptation was announced, there was a lot of noise around The Witcher. So when the show premiered, it didn’t surprise anyone that it was a huge hit for Netflix. As for Netflix, they knew from the online fan chatter that this series was going to be big and so they greenlit a second season before the first one even premiered.

Netflix’s The Witcher had a different approach to Sapkowski’s books. Instead of following just the title character, it chose to follow 3 characters whose stories were unfolding in various points in time and places. At the end of season one, we saw that their paths were converging together. These 3 characters were Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Ciri (Freya Allan), and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra).

It goes without saying that Geralt is the titular Witcher, Yennefer is a tragic but powerful sorceress, and Ciri is Cintra’s crown princess with her own powers. At the end of season 1, Geralt and Ciri were bound together by the Law of Surprise.

Witcher Teaser breakdown

Season 2 will be continuing their stories and expanding this surreal universe. Now, we don’t know much about season 2 but Netflix has announced a host of new characters who will be joining The Witcher. As such, through those casting news, details about the plot can be inferred.

As of now, it’s been confirmed that season 2 will be taking Geralt and Ciri to Kaer Morhen, the witchers’ training school. There she will be training in various disciplines. Right now, there’s no release date for season 2, but Netflix has shared a short teaser with fans and there are some very intriguing clues in it. So let us explore them:

 Kaer Morhen

 Kaer Morhen

It’s clear that one of the main focus of season 2 will be Ciri’s training at Kaer Morhen. The previous season was based on the stories Sword of Destiny and The Last Wish. But the second season will take inspiration from Blood of Elves.

In this story, Ciri gets taken to Kaer Morhen by Geralt so that she can be safe from the Nilfgaardian looking for her. Also, of course, he wants to train her there. There she meets other Witchers who help her with her training.

For example, Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz) is a teacher, Lambert (Paul Bullion) teaches her combat, Geralt’s mentor Vesemir (Kim Bodnia) imparts knowledge about various herbs and monsters, Coën (Yasen Atour) teaches her sword combat.

In the season 2 teaser, we can see that Ciri is in a dark place with various weapons and artifacts. It’s implied that the place is Kaer Morhen.

The Lion Cub Of Cintra

The Lion Cub Of Cintra

Ciri’s arc began when Cintra was invaded by Nilfgaard. In the battle, her grandmother, the Queen of Cintra, Calanthe, was horribly injured and her husband, Eist was murdered. Ciri was escorted out of her burning kingdom but before that, her grandmother told her to look for Geralt since “he’s her destiny.”

In the season 2 teaser, there’s a moment where a golden lion can be seen embroidered on Ciri’s robes. It shows that even though she has left the clothes behind her, but her kingdom is still close to her heart. Ciri even gets nicknamed “The Lion Cub of Cintra.”

So even though her family was murdered and her kingdom burned to ashes, but she still won’t forget where she is from.

Ciri’s Visions

Ciri

The teaser also featured some visions of Ciri. Or rather, the video was presented in a manner that made it feel to viewers that it was a series of visions about the upcoming season. Now, in the very first season itself, Ciri’s powers were showing, but there was a lot to learn and know about them.

In the novels, Ciri begins going into trances and having visions. After that she takes a sip of a White Gull which is an alcoholic beverage drank by the Witchers. The Witchers are helpless in this case and so they contact Triss Merigold. She is able to examine Ciri’s powers better and discovers their importance.

Elder Speech Runes

Elder Speech Witcher

One of the most intriguing parts of that teaser was the runes that show up during it. Fans will know that the world of The Witcher has various languages used within it, but these are all based on the real ones. So far, the only one that has been used in the Netflix series is Elder Speech.

These runes that are showing up on video are in that language. Fans have tried to translate it and it seems to say- “Gynvaelee saifen aep zollkai toranna,” which according to many means something like “ice tower.” Still others have tried to translate it and they think that the first portion refers to Aedd Gynvael, a city in Narok.

It is there that lies the myth of the Winter Queen. It is said that she traversed the entire land in a beautiful sleigh drawn by powerful white horses. As she continued doing so, little shards of the ice flew out and the people who were hit by those were pretty much doomed for eternity.

As per Geralt, the Winter Queen is in reality the Wild Hunt. These are a group of specters who gallop across the sky and are thought to be an omen of war. Fans have a theory that the Wild Hunt is behind Yennefer’s imprisonment. But even if they aren’t, these runes certainly do refer to them. So season 2 is certainly shaping up to be a wild one.

Cahir’s Return

In the teaser, there was a character in full armor. But the shot was taken from behind so there was no way to know who that was. Fans suspect that it’s Cahir. He is the Nilfgaardian knight who chases after Ciri in season one. He was really close to capturing her, but when he finally did it was revealed to be Adonis, a Doppler who helped her escape.

Cahir was also present at the Battle of Sodden Hill during the end of season one. So he is fully expected to show up in season 2. In fact, it would be surprising if he didn’t come back. After all, there’s a lot to still show regarding his history with the Cintran princess.

However, there’s also a real possibility that this armoured character will be someone new. We also think that it’s possible that the character is Emhyr var Emreis, Ciri’s father. After all, he is the actual reason why Nilfgaard wants to take her hostage.

There’s not much that has been released about season 2. But if the teaser is any indication, then it will be wild, fun, and exciting. Right now we can just theorize as we wait for the new season to drop. And as all fans wish- hopefully, it will drop soon.
