Netflix earned a fantastic run with its very first drop of The Witcher Season 1. However, the recently released Season 2 went up a notch to receive an even higher Rotten Tomatoes score. While the first season was fairly received for the impressive performances by the stars, it was also criticized for several reasons. Some being the sudden jumps in its non-linear timeline, and the unreasonable compartions to fantasy legend Game of Thrones. However, critics find themselves devoid of any such problems regarding the second season. Thus giving it a much higher rating on Tomatometer.
Netflix Expands Its Range Of Upcoming Witcher Content
Both seasons of The Witcher are widely appreciated category. And they fall under Netflix’s most-watched TV content. But it appears as if the franchise’s second installment is surpassing the stage set by the first. The Henry Cavill starrer fantasy drama follows the titular character’s journey as per the popular series of books and video games of the same name. The spectacular universe of Witcher instantly turned into one of Netflix’s most cherished properties.
Eventually added to the franchise are a spin-off anime movie, a live-action prequel spin-off, and a family-friendly spin-off show. Too, the franchise also has a third season that is currently under the works. Netflix has tried to create big content to turn them into their IP for a long time now. The streaming platform intends to expand its horizons with large-scale shows. And seeing the rapid multiplication of its Witcher projects, it appears as if the network has found yet another commercially profiting franchise for its fold.
The Witcher Season 2 Critic Ratings
The Witcher Season 2 received incredible reviews from critics worldwide. This got the show to earn 94 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Which is a massive escalation compared to Season 1’s 68 percent. The credit for these numbers goes to a bunch of evident factors. Firstly, the show followed a more pronounced, linear timeline. This allowed its strong set of characters to flesh out properly. Secondly, the show displayed some of the most terrifying monsters. This shift in response is more noticeable when we look at Rotten Tomatoes’ Top Critics. They gave the first season a Rotten 42 percent score. Which improved to a whopping 82 percent with Season 2.

The Witcher Season 2 Fan Ratings
In fact, when the critics admired the second season to such a great extent, the audience’s reaction was totally upside down. The audience score for Season One was 90 percent, but Season 2 dropped all the way to 60. The main reason for this was that fans were disappointed to see the Netflix show stray from the original narrative of the books and games.
While some believe that deviations from the source material heavily impacted the show, there is also the fact that newer audiences are not entirely aware of the dismay that comes with it. However, the writing as well as the repeated inclusion of the F-word seemed to disconnect fans from the compelling experience that the fantastical lore sets in The Witcher.
Hopes For A Better Season 3
The Witcher Season 3 has dusted the script writing process already. All that remains to be seen is whether the show will finally be able to impress both the fans and the critics on its next outing. It is true that the writers cannot make any major changes to the script now. But since this one took longer to come to fruition, we are hoping that was favorable for the overall caliber.
The Witcher Season 2 did an amazing job at laying the premises by introducing many important elements to the show. This means that future projects have a lot of thrills in store for both fans and critics. And we will have the privilege of witnessing it all when The Witcher Season 3 finally premieres in 2023.
