Since Disney+ has taken over as the exclusive home of Marvel’s streaming content, Netflix’s biggest flaw is already being replicated by the newer service. The MCU and its various television series have received mostly positive reviews. This issue that shot down Netflix’s Defenders-verse is beginning to show up in the Disney+ MCU catalogue and needs to be fixed in order to save the franchise.

Netflix’s Defenders-verse began with the release of season 1 of Daredevil in 2015, which was dubbed the first season of Netflix’s MCU. All of Netflix’s shows, including Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and others, are connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The earlier seasons culminated in the Netflix Marvel superhero team-up series The Defenders. Despite the fact that the shows proceeded after The Defenders, they were all abruptly cancelled before a satisfactory conclusion could be reached, and as a result, only a few characters from The Defenders made an appearance in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Is Time A Constraint?

Netflix’s MCU shows all have 13 episodes each season, which has caused some issues. Every season of every show had to fill a 13-hour run because each episode lasted 45 to an hour. Some of the Defenders shows, like The Punisher and Iron Fist, dragged in the middle because of their length, and some episodes felt like filler.

Forced to fit all of these shows into the same episode tally harmed many of them, even though all of them had great potential. The Marvel shows on Disney+ started out promising, but they are now in the same predicament. Even though there are a few exceptions, most of these shows are constrained to a six-episode season, which creates a problem that is separate from but linked to Netflix’s original flaw: the Disney+ shows all feel rushed.

The fact that many of Disney+’s Marvel shows must be “six-episode events” only exacerbates Netflix’s predicament. Disney+ shows, like the Defenders shows, are constrained to the same episode order and feel rushed because of their lack of time. Shows like Hawkeye are forced to leave unanswered questions because they lack the time to tell the narrative they intended.

Disney+ The New Netflix?

All the shows, not just this one, have the same pace and sound. They all feel the same because they all have the same number of episodes, which forces them to follow the same format. Similarly, Netflix was unable to address this issue, which contributed to a decline in viewership. The MCU shows suffer as a result of Disney+’s decision to make each series a six-episode event.

The shows in the Defenders universe got off to a good start, but as the seasons progressed, viewers lost interest. Instead of allowing creatives to tell their stories in varying episode lengths, Disney+ is repeating Netflix’s problem. Although Disney+ seemed like a new beginning for the MCU TV show side, it is now making the same mistake that killed the Netflix series. It is safe to say that Disney+ is now the new Netflix.
