After months leading up to the promotions, Netflix premiered the second season of The Witcher last month. While being one of the most streamed and highly admired shows on the network, the season received varied responses from the audience. However, production had started working on the next season way before the release of its current installment. The writing for Season 3 began in July 2021 and was wrapped by the end of December. And now, it’s time to move on to the next round.
From what information we have, it’s safe to say that The Witcher Season 3 will begin it’s pre-production in the impending weeks, meaning in January itself. Whereas the filming for The Witcher Season 3 is scheduled to commence in early March 2022.
However, it is a given that the dates for the shoots tend to change sometimes. So we will only know for sure when the crew starts work. Only a few weeks back, there were reports that the filming would start in February. But the recent reports point towards March. In addition to this, the production has also moved to a new location from the previous Arborfield Studios to Longcross Studios. So building a new set entirely from scratch will also require time.
Previously, the insight suggested that filming would last from February until July 2022. So if it has been delayed by a month, then it will wrap around August 2022. However, this might change because the world is still facing a pandemic. And various countries are still responding to the new Covid variant in their own ways. So it is nearly impossible to make a certain speculation right now.
Let’s suppose that things do not get any worse and that the production wraps up the filming in August 2022. Following which there will be a 6-7 month long period of post-production. This means that the season would be ready for release sometime around Spring 2023.
The Witcher Season 1 and Season 2 are now available to stream exclusively on Netflix. Whereas Season 3 is currently in development for a 2023 release.
