James Gunn and Peter Safran are now DC Studios’ CEOs. It has barely been a month since they have officially joined, but they are already making waves with their decisions. First came the news that Wonder Woman 3 has been shelved and then Henry Cavill said that he has departed the role of DCU’s Superman. Expectedly, these decisions have not gone on well with a part of the DC fanbase. But Gunn has a reply for them. Read on to know what:

Henry Cavill’s departure has left a lot of fans in total shock. After all, the star had just announced his return after a cameo in Black Adam’s post-credits scene. There were even reports of WBD developing a Man of Steel sequel. But that obviously isn’t happening now. So fans feel betrayed for being strung along for so long with no payoff.

But above all, they are angry on behalf of Henry Cavill (however, they should probably be upset at Dwayne Johnson for reportedly using Henry Cavill as a pawn in his DC efforts). So one Twitter user wrote to James Gunn:

“The cold indifference to letting Henry Cavill go and tweeting about everything but is truly “CEO role” worthy. I couldn’t do it … but I have a heart.”

To this James Gunn replied that he and Henry Cavill are all good after they had an open honest conversation:

“I’m anything but cold about it. I sat down in person with Henry yesterday and we had a very open and honest and respectful discussion. We’ve communicated since and he and I are all good. And I said what I needed to say yesterday, not sure what else you’d like me to say.”

James Gunn had previously clarified that the reason behind Henry Cavill’s departure is due to him writing a new Superman movie with a younger Clark Kent. He has stated that the movie won’t be an origin story. Gunn also clarified that the film doesn’t have a director yet.

Henry Cavill’s departure and Wonder Woman 3’s shelving has made fans wonder if DC is heading for a hard reboot under James Gunn. As per scoopers, the new CEOs are planning on starting afresh and are looking to cast new actors for all the Justice League characters. As for who will play the new Superman, that remains to be seen. But he will have big red boots to fill.

As for Henry, he will be fine. After all, being DC’s Superman isn’t the only work he has. The actor is already set to star in and executive produce a Warhammer 40K series.

Stay tuned for more updates.
