Freya Allan, who plays the character of Princess Cirilla in Netflix’s The Witcher series, revealed that the show’s upcoming season would give Ciri a more prominent, more persistent and more physical role. Netflix adapted the story in 2019. And shortly after its release, The Witcher earned a reputable position in the fantasy genre with its fascinating world of magic and monsters.

Fans are now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming season. The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the titular hero, known as Geralt of Rivia. Alongside him, Freya Allan plays the role of the young princess of Cintra, Cirilla, and Anya Chalotra plays the mighty sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.

Netflix’s The Witcher series

Netflix’s interpretation of The Witcher is initially taken from the extensive series of books and short stories created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Season 1 of The Witcher switched between different timelines to tell the story of Geralt and Ciri. Through several mystical endeavours, the two finally cross paths as they were destined to. In the finale, Geralt is finally seen determined to protect Ciri at all costs.

Ciri will have a more significant role in The Witcher Season 2.

Following the blessed union of the two primary characters, The Witcher Season 2 can focus on maintaining a linear timeline. The show will be more undistinguished. Meaning it will leave behind the mind-bending mechanics of timelines. And instead, emphasize setting a plot that meticulously aligns with the source material. As well as The Witcher video games. Actor Henry Cavill revealed that The Witcher Season 2 would portray a more book-accurate Geralt.

Freya Allan on her role as Ciri in the upcoming season

Only recently, Freya Allan sat for an interview with HeyUGuys. The actress opened up about her role as Princess Cirilla in The Witcher Season 2. Allan casually looked back to how the show’s first season depicted her character. She light-heartedly said that Season 1 Ciri mainly was “running away through the woods.” Allan subtly reveals that Ciri will take a more active physical stance in Season 2. She also added that to prepare for the role, Ciri underwent physical training. Check out her full comment on the topic below:

“[In] season 1, [Ciri] was just running away through woods all the bloody time! And then in this season, I got given far more scenes – dialogue – to play with, not even just dialogue. Scenes with a lot to process, which was so much fun. Then also the physical element of training and everything so I’ve been waiting for this for a whole season, so, it was amazing.”

The Witcher setting its place in the fantasy genre

After HBO concluded its Game of Thrones tenure, fantasy fans were sad. But The Witcher series has done remarkably well in revitalising TV show audiences’ inclination towards the wide world of dystopia. Following the commendable acclaim received by Netflix’s The Witcher, other productions have tried their hand at creating fantasy content as well. This includes Amazon’s latest show, The Wheel of Time. In addition, a mega-budget Lord of the Rings series is also rumoured to be currently in development.
