Freya Allan, who plays the character of Princess Cirilla in Netflix’s The Witcher series, revealed that the show’s upcoming season would give Ciri a more prominent, more persistent and more physical role. Netflix adapted the story in 2019. And shortly after its release, The Witcher earned a reputable position in the fantasy genre with its fascinating world of magic and monsters.
Fans are now eagerly looking forward to the upcoming season. The Witcher stars Henry Cavill as the titular hero, known as Geralt of Rivia. Alongside him, Freya Allan plays the role of the young princess of Cintra, Cirilla, and Anya Chalotra plays the mighty sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg.
Netflix’s The Witcher series
Netflix’s interpretation of The Witcher is initially taken from the extensive series of books and short stories created by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. Season 1 of The Witcher switched between different timelines to tell the story of Geralt and Ciri. Through several mystical endeavours, the two finally cross paths as they were destined to. In the finale, Geralt is finally seen determined to protect Ciri at all costs.
Following the blessed union of the two primary characters, The Witcher Season 2 can focus on maintaining a linear timeline. The show will be more undistinguished. Meaning it will leave behind the mind-bending mechanics of timelines. And instead, emphasize setting a plot that meticulously aligns with the source material. As well as The Witcher video games. Actor Henry Cavill revealed that The Witcher Season 2 would portray a more book-accurate Geralt.
Freya Allan on her role as Ciri in the upcoming season
Only recently, Freya Allan sat for an interview with HeyUGuys. The actress opened up about her role as Princess Cirilla in The Witcher Season 2. Allan casually looked back to how the show’s first season depicted her character. She light-heartedly said that Season 1 Ciri mainly was “running away through the woods.” Allan subtly reveals that Ciri will take a more active physical stance in Season 2. She also added that to prepare for the role, Ciri underwent physical training. Check out her full comment on the topic below:
“[In] season 1, [Ciri] was just running away through woods all the bloody time! And then in this season, I got given far more scenes – dialogue – to play with, not even just dialogue. Scenes with a lot to process, which was so much fun. Then also the physical element of training and everything so I’ve been waiting for this for a whole season, so, it was amazing.”
The Witcher Season 1 concluded with the show’s lead characters uniting. And now, Season 2 can put its entire focus on the growing dynamic between Geralt and Ciri. Fans did not get the chance to explore Ciri’s character in depth in Season 1. This is because she was still figuring out her path towards her destiny. But now, an expanded on-screen presence is something we are all eagerly anticipating. And with the way Freya Allan puts it, Ciri’s character will be more fleshed out in The Witcher Season 2.
Allan also implies that her character will have a prominent physical role. This includes combat training as well as live-action sequences. Fans are increasingly curious to see how her abilities will shape throughout Geralt’s training. The Witcher Season 2 will also work towards exploring Cavill’s character. In many interviews, Henry Cavill Encouraged Fleshing Out A Cultured Geralt In The Witcher Season 2. This also aligns with the actor diluting his personality and humour into the character.
The Witcher setting its place in the fantasy genre
After HBO concluded its Game of Thrones tenure, fantasy fans were sad. But The Witcher series has done remarkably well in revitalising TV show audiences’ inclination towards the wide world of dystopia. Following the commendable acclaim received by Netflix’s The Witcher, other productions have tried their hand at creating fantasy content as well. This includes Amazon’s latest show, The Wheel of Time. In addition, a mega-budget Lord of the Rings series is also rumoured to be currently in development.
The future of The Witcher franchise
Aside from this, many other projects are officially announced to develop parallel with the original series. And all these titles fall under The Witcher franchise. And are set to explore the universe to greater depths. From the news so far, we know that an animated spin-off film and a second is already in the works.
The main series of The Witcher is also believed to have a prequel. And it is under development right now. Additionally, there is also kids and family-friendly series coming up. This only means more content for fans. So after The Witcher Season 2 premieres on Netflix later in December, there is plenty of stuff waiting out there. But for now, we are excited to see a more fleshed out, significant version of Ciri.
