The question, “What happens when Tony Stark’s technology slips into the wrong hands?” sums up all we know about Marvel Studios’ Armor Wars. It’s a terrifying scenario with a variety of potential solutions, many from great comic book arcs.

Fans have been calling for characters like Sam Rockwell’s Justin Hammer to make their long overdue comeback, but who else could help enhance Don Cheadle’s Amor Wars?

The Infamous Iron-Man

Infamous Iron Man is a brief comic book series that Brian Michael Bendis (co-creator of Riri Williams) wrote in 2016. In this sequel to Secret Wars (2015), Victor von Doom serves as Iron Man rather than Tony Stark. Doom has finally obtained Tony’s technology after years of trying to do so and has dubbed himself the new Iron Man. Doom combines his traditional magical skills with the heroic imagery of Iron Man’s armor as he works with S.H.I.E.L.D. to apprehend low-level criminals.

But not everyone likes the infamous villain in the armor. In one of her first-ever solo missions, young Riri Williams meets Doom head-on and demands that he hand up the suit, which heightens the tension. This scene reminds me of Kevin Feige’s “Magic vs. Machine” Ironheart D23 tease. That strategy taken to the extreme with a super sorcerer like Doctor Doom in Tony’s armor would be amazing to watch. The link between Wakanda Forever, Ironheart, and Armor Wars may very well be Doom obtaining that technology and Riri holding him responsible.

Numerous characters from the Ironheart series have connections to the Infamous Iron Man storyline. The Hood develops from a minor villain to someone who has a heroic battle against Doctor Doom. But more significantly, Armor Wars should be about the heritage of Iron Man and why Doom is unsuited to wearing the armor, not the other way around.

Armor Wars would be an incredible upgrade for Riri and an exciting standalone movie for Rhodey if Ironheart and War Machine joined forces against Doctor Doom after dealing with a street-level antagonist like the Hood. It would be meaningful to continue the important exploration of Tony’s influence in the MCU as well as to explore the ramifications of Doom donning Iron Man’s armor.
