Since Gunn was fired from the project in 2018, which was later reversed, the movie has been pushed back to 2023, six years after Vol. 2 and approximately 9 years after the first film.

Guardians Vol. 3 will feature Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and Will Poulter in the role of Adam Warlock; This will be Warlock’s first appearance in the MCU. Other actors and roles have not yet been revealed, including the film’s antagonist.

The Bad Guy In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3

This week on the Change My Mind podcast, GWW‘s Editor-in-Chief K.C. Walsh, who is well-known for his MCU scoops, discussed some of the latest rumors he’s been hearing about upcoming Marvel movies. According to Walsh, “I did hear – this is a thing that’s been floating around – the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is the High Evolutionary.” As expressed by Walsh, this character is “I know he’s like one of those ‘I’m gonna experiment on beings’ guys” and that “essentially the idea in the movie is that he’s gonna be the one who created Rocket.”

Assimilation Into The MCU Of The High Evolutionary

To create a powerful, godlike being, Marvel Comics’ High Evolutionary, now aka the villain of Guardians of the Galaxy 3, is indeed a protagonist who experiments on creatures. There is a good chance he’s from Earth based on the comics. However, it’s also possible that his MCU counterpart is. He will inevitably have wound up somewhere else in the universe.

The rocket could very well be one of the animal-human hybrids created by the High Evolutionary in the comic books. Characters such as Thor and the Hulk from Marvel Comics have already appeared in the MCU. So this way, the character has ties to them as well. He has also used the Darkhold. This resulted in Pietro and Wanda Maximoff gaining their powers.

WandaVision introduced the Darkhold and offered some origin stories on Wanda’s powers. Nonetheless, the origins of neither Wanda nor Pietro’s powers were confirmed in the series. So, a similar project with the High Evolutionary and Scarlet Witch could happen later in the MCU.
