The MCU’s Blade film is looking for a WWE star to play a secret role. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019 that Bassam Tariq would be directing. Furthermore, he also confirmed that Mahershala Ali would star in a new version of the famous half-vampire superhero. Ali’s Blade first appeared in a post-credits sequence in The Eternals. Nonetheless, the film will be part of Marvel’s Phase 4 slate of superhero movies.

Blade will be the title character’s first foray into the MCU. This will also be his first silver screen appearance since the Wesley Snipes-led trilogy from 1998-2004. Blade has followed the half-human/half-vampire as he hunts the supernatural, blood-sucking creatures and grapples with his own identity. This is even though there is no official release date or plot synopsis yet. Blade has teamed up with a variety of humans and superheroes over the years, including the Avengers, to take on a wide range of villains, most of whom are vampiric.

Mustafa Ali Wants Fans To Vouch For Him

WWE star Mustafa Ali expressed interest in an unannounced role in the MCU’s Blade project on Twitter, tagging the studio directly in the tweet. Not yet verified, the casting call describes a male South Asian in his 20s-30s who is open to training. Nonetheless, the team is also seeking candidates to have prior fight experience over other forms of martial arts training. “Though he has taken a vow of silence, his eyes tell us he has been through strife,” reads the character description.

Reintroducing Dracula

Death of Dracula

As a result of Ali’s social media campaign, a number of fans have joined in. The 35-year-old has been with the WWE since 2016 and has nearly 19 years of in-ring experience that could be beneficial to an action-heavy Blade role. The casting call specified that the candidate must be of South Asian descent, and he happens to be Pakistani. Taj Nital was a vampire hunter who appeared in Tomb of Dracula #3 in 1972 and had his throat ripped out after an attack by Vlad Dracula. And now he is the subject of online speculation. Once again joining forces with Nital’s allies Quincy Harker and Rachel van Helsing, Blade makes an appearance in Tomb of Dracula #10.

The “vow of silence” in the casting call differs from Nital’s muteness in the comics. However, Marvel would not be out of the question to experiment with her origin. Other casting calls that fans believe could be for Nital’s other vampire hunters, Harker and van Helsing, add fuel to the fire. It’s possible that Ali, with his ethnicity, build, and stunt experience will be the ideal choice for the role. This would give Blade fans a new character to look forward to in the MCU. This suggests that Dracula could be reintroduced, which could be a great casting opportunity for the show.
