Thor 4 infuriated fans earlier this week when, after an unprecedentedly long wait, the first teaser trailer for the eagerly anticipated Marvel film finally dropped. It was easy to miss Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor despite the teaser showing the return of fan favorites like Valkyrie and Korg.

Natalie Portman’s appearance on stage at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 sparked a frenzy of excitement. Following her absence from Thor: Ragnarok, the actress has confirmed that she will appear in the upcoming Thor: Infinity Gauntlet. Besides returning as Jane, Thor’s ex-girlfriend, she revealed that she would also be taking on the mantle of Mighty Thor and wielding his powerful hammer Mjolnir.

Although Jane Foster’s role as Thor has been established in Marvel comics for quite some time, it is still unclear how closely the film adaptation of Thor: Love and Thunder will adhere to the original material. It has been revealed that Thor 4 will stick to one particular element of Jane Foster’s comic roots.

Thor 4 Will Feature A Cancer Storyline For Jane Foster

It appears that Jane Foster will be “suffering from cancer” in the MCU sequel, according to an online listing for an officially-licensed replica of Mighty Thor’s helmet for Thor: Love and Thunder.

When Jane is fighting the otherworldly Gorr in her godly form, she’ll be “battling cancer in her human form,” according to Marvel and Eagle Moss’ full listing:

Suffering from cancer, astrophysicist and Thor’s ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, visited New Asgard and her life was changed forever. Mysteriously, the broken pieces of Mjolnir, the hammer of the thunder god, transformed her into the Mighty Thor and gifted her the superpowers of Thor, to battle threats internal and external. Wielding Mjolnir herself, she had become a godly protector and a new hero was born!

He faced Gorr, the God Butcher with the help of Thor, Valkyrie and other members of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Gorr, who possessed divine abilities, felt compelled to purge the universe of all gods. It was an epic battle of love and thunder for Jane Foster as she fought both cancer and Gorr, her godly counterpart.

The Mighty Cancer Battle

Jane Foster As Lady Thor

Thor 4 is expected to depict Jane Foster’s storyline battle with breast cancer in the same way that the comics depicted it. Earlier this year, Natalie Portman hinted that her character Jane would be undergoing cancer treatment; however, this listing appears to confirm that this will be canon in the upcoming Thor movie.

In the comics, Foster’s battle with breast cancer played an important role in her growth as a character. Even though she became Mighty Thor, she was still unable to completely cure herself of cancer because of her new powers, which removed the chemotherapy from her system.

Because of this, Jane was plagued by her illness when she wasn’t carrying Mjolnir in the comics. According to the description, Jane fights Gorr the God Butcher in her “godly form” and cancer “in her human form” in Thor: Love and Thunder as well.

Thor’s ruptured hammer Mjolnir, which was smashed by Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, mysteriously transforms Foster into the Mighty Thor when she visits New Asgard in the film. According to a video taken from the Thor: Love and Thunder set last year, Natalie Portman appears to have undergone a godly transformation.
