Will Tom Cruise join the MCU with a Superior Iron Man cameo? In the run-up to the premiere of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, whispers abounded about who would be making an appearance from non-MCU comic book movies or prospective versions.

Earth-838’s whole Illuminati cast was correctly revealed in the months and weeks leading up to the film’s debut, so take that with a grain of salt. However, the most significant rumor, which saw Tom Cruise portraying a villainous version of Tony Stark in Superior Iron Man, has not materialized at this time.

When RDJ Became Tony Stark

In 2008’s Iron Man, Tom Cruise was reportedly considered for the role of Tony Stark before Robert Downey Jr. landed the part and revitalized his career. Yet now that the universe has opened up, all kinds of possibilities are accessible should Marvel Studios pick them.

Before his appearance in Doctor Strange, John Krasinski was fan cast by the internet as Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four. And now it turns out there’s a rumor that Cruise is in discussions to join the MCU too in time for Avengers 5. Cruise’s role in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wasn’t quite clear, as Geekosity noted before its article.

It was reported, however, that sources suggest that Tom Cruise is heading to the MCU. According to sources, Tom Cruise is in negotiations to join the MCU in a cameo as the role of Superior Iron Man in Marvel Studios’ next crossover epic Secret Wars.

Secret Wars, the MCU’s massive crossover event, is expected to take place after Avengers 5, which has not yet been revealed. Many distinct Marvel superheroes from various universes clash in comic books. Think of it: all three Spider-Man leads in one film plus dozens of additional characters and their many iterations.

The report suggests that Cruise will most certainly appear. And when he does, the actor will do so in Marvel Secret Wars:

“Sources indicate that Tom Cruise is coming to the MCU. Insiders add that Tom Cruise is in talks for Marvel Studios’ crossover epic Secret Wars as Superior Iron Man.”

Thoughts of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ben Affleck’s Daredevil possibly appearing in Secret Wars instead of Doctor Strange 2 were circulated before. Plus, since they didn’t show up in the Multiverse of Madness, maybe they can be convinced to join the Secret Wars.
