There are cameos everywhere. After the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, everyone seems to be talking about that. After years of development, the Multiversal sublime is finally here, and it’s already making a pittance at the box office. The Scarlet Witch unleashed her wrath across the universes in this sequel, directed by Sam Raimi.

However, in the spur of the film, a lot of attention was paid to the possibility of Multiversal cameos in the film. Patrick Stewart’s return as Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise was teased, but it felt like a drop in the bucket when it came to the surprises that could be revealed.

Before the film’s release, fans speculated that Tom Cruise might be a Tony Stark doppelganger. Before Robert Downey Jr. was cast in 2008’s Iron Man, Tom Cruise was considered for the role of Tony Stark. A cameo role for the veteran actor would have given him a chance to finally play the character.

Well, Tom Cruise did not show up as the Superior Iron Man in Doctor Strange 2, and Marvel finally addressed the rumors that surrounded the film’s release.

Tom Cruise was being considered

Is Tom Cruise Actually In Doctor Strange 2_

Tom Cruise was rumored to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, according to screenwriter Michael Waldron in an interview with Rolling Stone.

“Yeah, that was totally made up. I mean, there’s no cut footage of Tom Cruise! But I love Tom Cruise, and I said to [Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] at one point, I was like, Could we get Tom Cruise’s Iron Man? I remember reading about that in Ain’t It Cool News back in the day, that Tom Cruise was going to be Iron Man.”

“It would have been cool” to have Cruise in the movie, but “he was shooting Mission Impossible 7 and 8,” said the screenwriter. “Availability” was a factor in the decision not to bring Cruise in, he explained.

Rolling Stone: “So to be totally clear, did anyone reach out to Tom Cruise?”
Michael Waldron: “I don’t believe so. I just don’t think it was ever an option, because of availability.”

According to Waldron, ” “The answer is no. Because of the lack of options, I doubt it was ever an option.”

Superior Iron Man will have to be patiently awaited

The multiverse of Madness was expected to feature Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier, as well as Tom Cruise as an alternate version of Iron Man. Though it was later revealed to be Lashana Lynch’s Captain Marvel, many thought it was actually Tom Cruise donning Iron Man armour in an early trailer.

As previously stated, Cruise was in the running to play Tony Stark at the beginning of the MCU, but Robert Downey Jr. eventually won the role. As a result, the actor could have realized a long-held fantasy of playing a superhero in this unique setting. Then again, it didn’t.

But that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future. Anything is possible in the Marvel Multiverse. When it was just a week ago that many thought John Krasinski would never appear on-screen as Reed Richards, look what happened! There are many ways in which the Multiverse works. This dream of going on a cruise just doesn’t seem within my reach.

It’s important to keep in mind how busy this man is these days. Like Ethan Hunt or Top Gun, Tom Cruise always has something going on.

In order to get the actor into the MCU, Marvel Studios will either have to book him years in advance or wait for things to slow down, which doesn’t appear to be happening any time soon.
