The Crowded Room

The Crowded Room, set in 1979 New York City, revolves around Holland’s character, Danny Sullivan, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is arrested for involvement in a shooting. The story unfolds through interviews between Danny and interrogator Rya Goodwin, offering audiences a glimpse into his life.

Regrettably, after receiving seven reviews, the Apple TV+ series currently holds a meager 14% approval score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, an unusually low rating for a television show.

Critics Express Their Disapproval

The Crowded Room

Critics have been quick to voice their negative opinions on Tom Holland’s The Crowded Room. Nick Schager from The Daily Beast criticized the show for spoiling itself and then pretending it hadn’t, employing ham-fisted misdirection and clunky elusion.

Marshall Shaffer of Slash Film pointed out the underdeveloped nature of the show’s twists and turns, making them feel tedious to viewers.

Collider’s Chase Hutchinson described the series as aptly titled but ultimately over-embellished and lacking engagement. He highlighted the frustration caused by the prolonged revelation of its supposed surprise and how it overshadowed Holland’s performance.

Tom Holland Faces Another Setback

Tom Holland

Tom Holland had previously expressed excitement for The Crowded Room, even stating that the experience had pushed him to his limits. However, the show’s unfavorable reception on Rotten Tomatoes is undoubtedly disheartening for the star.

While Holland has achieved great success within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, his ventures outside of it, such as movies like Spies in Disguise, Cherry, and Uncharted, have received lukewarm receptions from audiences and critics alike.

Looking ahead, Holland is set to portray Fred Astaire in a biopic about the iconic film and dance star, directed by Paul King under Sony Pictures. However, the film’s release date is currently unknown.

Furthermore, Holland is expected to return to the MCU with the highly anticipated Spider-Man 4 sequel. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing WGA strike, the development of the project has come to a halt, leaving fans eagerly waiting for updates.
