The Venom symbiote is nothing if not complicated. It was born in a cavern on Klyntar and has had quite a journey ever since. It has had several hosts. It has been both the hero and the villain. It has felt emotions ranging from guilt, fear and agony to betrayal and distrust. Let’s jump into our top 6 strongest and most interesting hosts of Venom.
Credit where credit is due. Spider-Man was the first to encounter the symbiote and bring it to Earth. If not for him, the Venom we know today and the rivalry between them would not exist. Initially Peter Parker was unaware of the existence of Venom. Only with the help of Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic did he discover the symbiote. They removed it by exploiting the Venom’s weakness to sonics.
Now the reason Spidey isn’t higher on this list is because he never truly bonded and became one with Venom. In fact, Venom is who he is today because of Spider-Man’s rejection.
The Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars miniseries added a few twists to the storyline. It was revealed that it was Deadpool who had first bonded with Venom and even possibly turned Venom into the crazy, aggressive parasite. Moreover, considering their great comedy and banter, we really could not leave this pair out of the list.
This combination is even more interesting than the ones before due to Lee Price’s character. He is a decorated Army ranger who is as ruthless and calculating as they come. Influenced by his tragic past, his mission was to rule the underworld with an iron fist. This host turns the tables on Venom. Lee Price is more of a monster than Venom himself. He forces Venom to dive deep into a life of crime. This is after Venom had tried to turn over a new leaf. He holds venom captive and completely silences him. This makes him one of the most terrifying hosts of Venom
Mac Gargan gets a place above Lee Price because of how well he bonded with the symbiote. He also beats the others due to his lengthy and successful stint with Venom. Although he ended up being not much of a threat to Spiderman, he earns his place due to the huge amount of time they spent bonded together. Thus, he established himself as a more than competent host.
Obviously Eddie Brock, arguably the most famous and definitive hosts of Venom had to be in our top 2. He has been Venom’s host for the longest. Moreover, he’s one of the toughest foes that our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has ever had to encounter. His sheer hatred towards Spider-Man made their rivalry as iconic as it is today. The bond between Eddie and Venom is unlike any. This is clear when they refer to themselves as “we”.
Before moving on to the strongest and most iconic host we have a few special mentions. Frank Castle after bonding with venom became an even more ruthless killer and pretty much bit people’s heads off. Imagine an already unstable man with multiple personalities. Now imagine what this man would become if you added Venom to the mix. Thats what we got when venom bonded with Norman Osborn aka Green Goblin. Last but not the least, there’s Ms. Marvel who fought Spider-Man while she was bonded to Venom
Flash Thompson’s bonding with the symbiote might be the best thing to have happened to Venom. The character development that Venom underwent with Thompson was more than that with even Eddie Brock.
Flash Thompson, after losing both his legs in the Iraq war, was selected to be Venom’s next host thus saving both of their lives in a way. Together they became Agent Venom. They developed trust and eventually referred to each other as partners. They fit together perfectly almost as two pieces of a puzzle.
That was our list. What about yours?
