The Marvel Cinematic Universe is consistently expanding its horizons by adding new heroes and villains into its belt of interesting characters. The studio has had to modify its plans several times because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Phase 4 content has moved around in its release dates quite a lot. And yet, fans continue to expect content from Marvel regularly. The excitement surrounding the franchise’s impending projects is high. More so after getting amazing shows on Disney+ like WandaVision, Loki, and Hawkeye.
For now, as MCU enters the year 2022, the production is planning to deliver a bunch of exciting new projects for fans to delight in.
Following the initial announcement at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, the MCU Phase 4 has seen drastic changes in its slate of content. A sudden, unexpected hush took over production in the year 2020. However, Marvel Studios came out strong with its fresh content in 2021. The franchise released superhit movies like Black Widow and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in theaters.
The current global pandemic poses an undetermined situation as it constantly keeps shifting. And it is uncertain whether Marvel Studios will change its 2022 slate of MCU projects yet again. To shed more light on the topic, there is a recent update which would help fans get a comprehensible picture for the near future.
Marvel Japan updated Marvel Studios’ 2022 slate on its official website. The new list does not include titles Secret Invasion and What If…? Season 2.
The Cosmic Circus was the first to feature this news. According to the report, the original lineup included the two projects in addition to a bunch of other movies and TV shows.
Marvel Studios’ updated lineup for 2022 can be found as follows:
Marvel Japan’s release of the updated 2022 slate comes as a manual for keen fans who always have an eye out for the MCU’s upcoming projects in Phase 4. Whether or not Marvel Studios will modify these titles depends on a lot of factors. But for now, it is safe to assume that the year 2023 will be when we finally see shows like Secret Invasion and What If…? Season 2 made it to the small screens.
Another important point to consider is how Marvel revealed its always-shifting project lineup through an international branch for the first time ever. Not only this, in October 2021, Marvel India’s official Twitter account accidentally revealed Blade’s original release date as October 7, 2022, through a tweet.
In an ever-expanding field of content, it is crucial for a production to juggle their projects the right way. Especially a production as massive and widespread as Marvel Studios that always has its plate full. If the studio has decided to remove shows like Secret Invasion and What If…? From its 2022 lineup, then, it must be to create the perfect footing between the rest of the projects. This will also allow the team to pay more attention to other MCU leads, like Moon Knight, She-Hulk, and Ms. Marvel.
For now, we can hope that Secret Invasion and What If…? Season 2 lies somewhere in the plans for the franchise’s run in the first half of 2023.
Considering the rumors around the Nick Fury-led Secret Invasion’s connection to The Marvels, it is safe to assume that the show will debut sometime in January 2023. Because then, it will help fuel the excitement for the Captain Marvel sequel, which is scheduled for a February 2023 release. Whereas the fully-animated series What If…? Season 2 might premiere sometime after the former. Between April-June 2023.
However things work out, it is apparent that the MCU’s current slate of projects for 2022 has plenty of room for anticipation. This is considering the removal of Secret Invasion and What If…? Season 2.
