After playing the role of Mainframe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Miley Cyrus was not seen in the third installment of the series. Instead, Tara Strong voiced the character in the latest movie.
Why Was Miley Cyrus Not In Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3?
James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy, revealed in response to fan questions that Cyrus was “not able to reprise her role from Guardians 2.” It can be assumed that Cyrus was unable to work on the project due to her busy schedule as a musician and entertainer. She was replaced by veteran voice actor Tara Strong.
Cyrus’ Busy Schedule
Around the time Marvel Studios would have needed her to record lines for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Cyrus had just released her latest studio album titled Endless Summer Vacation. Additionally, she had a part in the upcoming fifth season of Netflix’s Black Mirror, which could have also been a factor.
Recasting In The MCU
Recasting in the MCU is not uncommon. For instance, Hugo Weaving was replaced by Ross Marquand as Red Skull/Johann Schmidt in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. However, Weaving’s replacement was due to his lack of interest in the intensive makeup process, whereas Cyrus’ absence was due to scheduling conflicts.
The Possibility Of Cyrus’ Return
It is still uncertain whether Cyrus will get another chance at MCU fame. However, since the Guardians of the Galaxy team is unlikely to return with this iteration, the possibility remains open.
Miley Cyrus’ absence in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was due to scheduling conflicts, leading to her replacement by Tara Strong. Recasting in the MCU is not unusual, and it is still unknown if Cyrus will return to the franchise in the future. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently playing in theaters worldwide.
