Thor: Love and Thunder will be a watershed moment in MCU history. This will be so, as the God of Thunder will be the first Avenger to lead a fourth solo film. Chris Hemsworth’s Avenger will be joined by a host of familiar faces. These include Jane Foster, Korg, Miek, Sif, the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Valkyrie.
Odin’s legendary warrior Valkyrie has gone from being the Grandmaster’s top scrapper on Sakaar to the recent ruler of New Asgard as Thor left Earth with the Guardians in her two MCU appearances. It’s still unknown how Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie will fit into Love and Thunder. However, new information on her new abilities may provide some clues.
While speaking with W Magazine recently, Valkyrie actor Tessa Thompson teased her upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder role, teasing her strange new powers. When asked to elaborate on her Asgardian hero’s abilities, Thompson revealed several new skills. These include the ability to “sense when someone is close to death” and transport them to the Norse afterlife of Valhalla. Valkyrie can now “revive people” but “sometimes she ends up in their body:”
“She has weird skills, to be honest. Valkyrie can sense when someone is close to death, and she takes them into Valhalla, which is essentially the afterlife. She can revive people. But when she revives people, sometimes she ends up in their body. It’s a weird thing. It can be quite erotic. And then she has superhuman strength and is essentially God.”
With the release of Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie became one of the most popular new characters, as she went from scrapper to critical part of Asgard’s evacuation. The Asgardian hero has since returned in Avengers: Endgame, where he fought for New Asgard’s throne.
Now that Valkyrie is the ruler of New Asgard in Love and Thunder, Thor will be traveling the galaxy with the Guardians. Consequently, this will give her a much bigger role in the story going forward. It’s still unclear how her new abilities will affect the story. However, it’s safe to assume that she’ll use her reviving abilities to bring back a significant character.
Set photos show the Asgardian queen riding her legendary flying horse in a suit. This could indicate that she is on a diplomatic mission. Valkyrie’s new battle-ready outfit has been shown off in new art, implying that her new position won’t keep her out of Gorr’s fight. Evidence suggests that Valkyrie will appear in Captain Marvel’s second installment- The Marvels, in some volume soon after Love and Thunder.
