A popular theory suggests that Venom and other villain spinoff movies will take place in the Amazing Spider-Man timeline, and here’s how it is a perfect idea. Sony Pictures has desired for a long to make an expansive universe containing many Spider-Man characters. Following Venom‘s huge box office success in 2018, the studio can move ahead with other plans, including the ideas originally planned for the Amazing Spider-Man franchise.
If Sony puts a stamp on rebooting Spider-Man as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many possibilities will open up. Spinoffs for many villains and Venom’s narrative can become the primary direction. Venom: Let There Be Carnage in 2021, brought Tom Hardy back as the symbiote. Morbius, which stars Jared Leto, will release in early 2022, and Kraven the Hunter, which stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is expected to release in 2023.
Spider-Man: No Way Home has clarified that The MCU and Sony’s Spiderverse are separate. Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield‘s return to the screen as a pair has sparked debate over each actor’s future. Andrew’s Spider-Man and the Amazing Spider-Man franchise have become the center of attention. Sony will likely include Venom spinoffs in the Amazing Spider-Man timeline as there is a growing demand for the narrative to continue.
The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2, carried the solo narrative of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man. Films existed in a separate universe. The idea of merging them with the MCU could not become the reality. The Amazing Spider-Man was the reboot of Tobey Maguire’s series. Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man ended with 2014’s sequel, although Sony was planning to expand its universe.
Because of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man rebooting the character again, the Amazing Spider-Man timeline ended there for all intents and purposes. Sony used the MCU reboot to gain audiences‘ interest for Venom, one of 2018‘s biggest box office hits and surprises. Now there are plans for other spinoffs to have their place in the narrative. The question that which universe the storyline will take place in was pending for a long time. Venom: Let There Be Carnage confirmed it to be the MCU, as fans saw Hardy’s Venom traveled there briefly.
Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man crossed over to the main MCU timeline because of Doctor Strange‘s failed spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home, confirming the Amazing Spider-Man timeline as part of the MCU‘s multiverse. Andrew returned to his universe after helping Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. No Way Home now has opened a door for Andrew. There has been the talk of him returning as Spider-Man again, either as in his original universe or in another.
Seeing Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home has thrilled audiences around the world. They are eagerly wanting more of his performances. Andrew is a central supporting character in the movie and features in some of its best scenes. For example, the scene in which he saved MJ. It was sort of his redemption for his unfortunate failure to Save Gwen Stacy.
With his performance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Garfield really won the recognition he deserved for what he contributed to the role before. Therefore, it would be a huge mistake for Sony not to bring him back to capitalize on his Spider-Man’s renewed popularity.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 did not allow him the chance to have an appropriate conclusion since it set up a sequel and spinoffs he was supposed to be a part of. The Amazing Spider-Man franchise didn’t have a problem with Andrew Garfield, rather its storyline and universe-building did.
Andrew’s Spider-Man really shined in a better light in Spider-Man: No Way Home. His appearance in the film has set the stage to expand his character even more. If Spider-Man 3 happens, there are hints of the narrative taking a darker tone. Garfield’s Spider-Man has brilliant potential, only if Sony uses it properly.
Spider-Man: No Way Home offers some credence to the idea that Sony’s Venom-Verse exists in the Amazing Spider-Man timeline. There is a time gap between Venom and Spider-Man movies. Venom takes place roughly 4 years after Amazing Spider-Man 2, with Venom Carnage catching up soon. In Venom 3, Eddie Brock may try to find Peter Parker in his universe. Venom 3 would allow Sony to connect the two franchises since Tom Hardy’s Venom knows about Spider-Man and Peter Parker thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home’s post-credits.
The Morbius trailer features the same logo as Garfield‘s Amazing Spider-Man franchise, hinting at a connection between Jared Leto’s film and Peter Parker. Fans can see Oscorp Tower also, in the trailer for Morbius. Because Morbius also references Venom a couple of times, that would strengthen the theory that the film takes place in the Amazing Spider-Man timeline. The trailers might have also shown another reference to Garfield’s Spider-Man.
Morbius showed a picture of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man suit with “murderer” painted across it. Sony could have digitally altered this to hide the fact it is actually Garfield’s suit. Thus, this may have connections to Spider-Man: No Way Home’s tease that he ended up killing some villains.
There is a probability of Andrew’s Spider-Man returning with Kraven the Hunter. The screenwriter has confirmed that Spider-Man ties into Kraven’s story. There was curiosity in fans to know if that statement means Tom Holland’s version of Spider-Man would appear, with the movie ending with him in Sony’s universe. However, it seems unlikely since he begins his new life in Marvel’s universe.
This makes Andrew’s Spider-Man the most plausible choice left. Especially because his narrative is getting darker after the Amazing Spider-Man 2.
Making Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man the centerpiece and tying Venom and Sinister Six together could also bring new life to the franchise. Garfield was supposed to return to the villain-centric film after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s impossible to bring these villains together without Spider-Man, and Sony seems eager to do this. Considering Holland’s Spider-Man 4 could lead him to Venom or Kingpin, Sony could finally fulfill Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man’s Sinister Six future by tying Sinister Six and Spider-Man together.
It should be fairly easy to put together the antagonists against Andrew Garfield if he stars in Sony’s Sinister Six. This could be an opportunity for Rhino to return after The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Keeton’s Morbius appearance could lead to his becoming Sony’s Vulture and joining their villain team. Sony‘s three main villains – Venom, Morbius, and Kraven – may have prominent roles in the story. That still leaves one spot empty. Villain candidates such as Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), Black Cat, Silver Sable, Jackpot, Doc Ock, and others can compete for that.
Sony has yet to reveal how it plans to cross all its villains. However, it might be just the perfect recipe for the Amazing Spider-Man timeline to become a blockbuster.
