Directed by Louis Leterrier, Fast X features Vin Diesel’s character, Dom Toretto, going head-to-head against Jason Momoa’s Dante. During a recent interview with ET, Vin Diesel finally shares his thoughts on Dwayne Johnson’s unexpected return to Fast X, skillfully sidestepping their past conflict during the filming of previous Fast & Furious movies. Diesel’s full comment on the matter reflects his perspective:

“We have an exceptional cast. Our approach is rooted in love. We strive to create an environment where everyone can deliver their best performances. That’s what actors truly desire—to feel supported in crafting unforgettable characters, characters that endure. You can witness that in this franchise.”

Dwayne Johnson initially joined the Fast & Furious series in Fast Five (2011), portraying a federal agent and bounty hunter assigned to bring down Dom and his crew. Johnson reprised his role in Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and Furious 7 (2015). However, in 2016, Johnson stirred controversy with a now-deleted Instagram post in which he referred to unidentified members of the Fate of the Furious cast as “candy asses.”

Speculation grew that Johnson’s target was Vin Diesel, a theory further reinforced when Johnson posted another Instagram message days later, expressing gratitude to his co-stars but omitting Diesel’s name. Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty, later confirmed the tension between Diesel and Johnson while asserting that they still maintained a friendly relationship. Adding fuel to the fire, Tyrese Gibson, who portrays Roman, blamed Johnson on social media for delaying F9, alleging that Johnson’s desire to make the franchise solely about himself was the cause.

Reconciliation And Future:

In 2021, Johnson announced his departure from the Fast & Furious franchise and expressed remorse over his inflammatory post that sparked the feud. Subsequently, Diesel publicly invited Johnson to reprise his role as Hobbs, to which Johnson publicly reaffirmed his decision not to return. However, with the assistance of Leterrier, it appears that the two have managed to mend their differences, as indicated by the Fast X post-credit scene, which hints at Hobbs playing a significant role in the next installment.
