In Kyiv, officials say that Vladimir Putin has already declared the end of the war in Ukraine. This date is the same as when Russia celebrated its victory over the Nazis in World War II, they say. The general staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces said that Russian propaganda makes people think that the war must be over by May 9, 2022. To mark the end of the Second World War, Russia holds a huge victory parade in Moscow’s Red Square on that day every year.

Officials who work for Ukraine’s military said in a Facebook post: ‘Based on the information we have, propaganda work is going on in the Russian armed forces that makes people think that the war must be over by May 9, 2022.’ Russian medical facilities near the border with Ukraine are “occupied by wounded Russian servicemen who were wounded in combat during the war against Ukraine and met units of defence forces in combat,” they said.

People who work for the Ukrainian armed forces said that the enemy is taking urgent steps to improve the air units of the airborne troops, which had lost a lot of both manpower and military equipment. Russian occupiers are having a lot of trouble in Ukrainian towns and cities, and they don’t get any help from the people there, the Ukrainian military said. It was said that, in Crimea, a Russian brigade held a ceremony for the 100 people who died in the unit. They said that in the city of Sevastopol, they saw the same thing. They said that marines in the Black Sea fleet were killed there.

People who try to leave the besieged city of Mariupol can now stay in a “filtration camp” in the city of Dokuchaivsky. This is for civilians who want to leave but don’t have the money or time to go to another city. People have been forced to leave Kreminna and Rubizhne before being sent to the Voronezh region, they said. Farmers in the Chernihiv region have had their tractors taken from them, they said. Ukrainian troops fired artillery at a Russian tank regiment in the Kharviv region. Russia celebrates its victory in the Second World War every year, a day after Western Europe celebrates VE Day on May 8. This is because of the time difference between Russia and other countries in the Soviet Bloc and Central European Time.

As a result of other countries broadcasting the Russian president’s victory speech on Victory Day, the event is one of the most watched events of the year. Victory Day is a national holiday in Russia. Most public offices, schools, and businesses are closed on Victory Day. In 2020, the event was pushed back because of the coronavirus pandemic. Even though it was the 75th anniversary of the Nazi surrender in 1945, at 23:01 Central European Time, it was pushed back. For Moscow, which is on Moscow Standard Time, the end of the war in Europe came after midnight. This means that the country celebrates a day later than it would have done otherwise.

With both sides losing a lot, Russia’s war in Ukraine is now in its second month. It was supposed to last just a few days, but both sides have been losing a lot. About 300 people were killed when a Russian plane bombed a theater in the city of Mariupol last week. This would make it the deadliest attack on civilians so far in the war.
