Marvel fans are long awaiting the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As it draws closer, the studio continues to slip in new details now and then. They are making the fans aware of the extent of chaos they will be witnessing.

The sorcerer will be seen diving back into action following Spiderman: No Way Home for the sequel of 2016’s Doctor Strange. And Strange is about to have a lot on his plate.

Ever since the news about the Sam Raimi directed sequel broke out, there have been numerous speculations and details leaked that surround the movie’s plot. Especially when it comes to who the Big Bad is going to be. However, there are no confirmations made so far. But now, we have enough leaks to piece the puzzle together and sketch a holistic picture of what might be presented to us.

Doctor Strange and Alternate Universes

Most facts point out the scenario playing out in this manner. That the actions of Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) in Spiderman: No Way Home will directly be followed by the events of the Multiverse of Madness, because No Way Home also involves a Multiverse to some extent, it is best to understand that Doctor Strange’s story in the Multiverse of Madness would come right after.

Indeed, Marvel Studios has not made any official announcements suggesting the same. But the recent leaks of information coming through various Reddit pages and Discord channels have disclosed some very interesting assumptions about the film’s storyline. So if you are willing to hear some unconfirmed rumors, here is what we have in store.

Recent leaks surrounding Doctor Strange 2

We know for sure that the Multiverse of Madness is going to be in continuation with the WandaVision finale. Wherein we see Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) studying the Darkhold in her astral form. It is then that Wanda will realize that she can only astral-project through realities. Then, she will go looking for a young teen, America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who has the power of creating portals between realities.

This is going to put her into a quarrelsome disagreement with Doctor Strange. But it appears that a villainous Wanda is not the only thing Doctor Strange will have to deal with. While there is nothing certain about who is responsible for messing with the Multiverse, the leaks confirm several villains who will make a grand entrance and play mind-blowing characters.

Rumored villains appearing in Doctor Strange 2

A character that fans are looking forward to the most is Mordo. He is the sorcerer who was last seen in the post-credits scene of Doctor Strange’s movie. Mordo was on his way to ease the world’s burden by eliminating “too many sorcerers.” And ever since, a reunion with Strange has been on the cards.

There have been rumors in the past that suggest an alliance between Mordo and Wanda in the Multiverse. However, new leaks are teasing the introduction of a Mordo Variant from an alternate universe. And surprisingly enough, this variant is a Sorcerer Supreme. To note, these rumors have received no official confirmation. But Mordo could likely be making his return in the Multiverse of Madness.

Another potential villain who will enter the Madness is the Elder God, Shuma-Gorath. As per an alleged image shared on the Australian site Booktopia, the demon is almost guaranteed to be in the film. This image was a part of Doctor Strange 2 merchandise on sale. It did a fantastic job in displaying a picture of the one-eyed Shuma-Gorath in a brawl with Strange.

The Big Bad

Quite a few leaks are suggesting the involvement of the Big Bad. But which character will ultimately become the Big Bad is still unclear. Many assumptions point towards Shuma-Gorath acting as the main antagonist. But new leaks suggest that it is Wanda who is running the show.

In WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff kidnapped an entire town and enchanted them. She even unknowingly created new super-powered individuals. So we are aware of how powerful Wanda is. And now, the Multiverse of Madness will move forward from where we last saw Wanda. We know from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that the Darkhold is a book that corrupts even the purest form. And as the story advances, Wanda could go to extreme and destructible extents to find her children.

The latest rumors give the impression that it is Wanda who calls upon the tentacled Shuma-Gorath. As well as some other demons to capture America Chavez.

As a curious angle, the film could use Wanda to introduce a host of characters anticipated to enter the MCU through the Doctor Strange sequel. As she astral projects into different versions of herself in alternate universes, she could stumble upon several rumored characters. The leaks specifically mention Charles Xavier and Captain Carter. Other characters that are being incorporated in the story are sorcerers at the Kamar-Taj.

Wanda will presumably create engulfing chaos across timelines, which is why she might become a full villain rather than just an anti-hero.

Other major characters making a debut

This comic book character is someone fans have been made acquainted with through Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And now the character will make a debut in the Multiverse of Madness. This is no other than Ghost Rider. While this is nothing more than a fan assumption, many reports in the past have made it grounds to believe that there will be a cameo.

Addressing Atlanta Filming’s Twitter account, the leak suggested that Ghost Rider will be freed from a kind of “spiritual prison” in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

We still do not know which version of Ghost Rider will show up in the Multiverse. But it is safe to assume that with the expanse of chaos he will have to control, Doctor Strange will likely assemble a team of some sort.

What we can expect from Sam Raimi

It appears as if Sam Raimi has strong plans to explore the Marvel universe’s uncharted territories with Doctor Strange 2. The movie has been placed in the category of a “horror” flick. And with someone like Sam Raimi holding the position of the director, the movie is going to be a visual delight.

Raimi has previously directed the Tobey Maguire Spiderman movies. But he is most popular for directing classic horror sequences like Evil Dead 1 & 2 and the well-known TV series Hercules & Xena: The Warrior Princess.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness promises a series of chaotic realities. And to flesh them out with perfection by adding a hint of horror and humor together is something we can rely on Sam Raimi to do best. Although, it is safe to wait until the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home before any trailers or posters is revealed. Until then, we have no confirmations about any of the above rumors.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release sometime in May 2022.
