“Ant-Man 3” has invited a lot of discussion online. Some of it is good, some of it is bad. However, one thing that can’t be denied is that the movie certainly could be better, especially its ending. In fact, many hardcore fans are scratching their heads over the ending, because the one they saw in theaters was different from the one there were leaks about.

The Leaked Ending Of Ant-Man 3

In 2022, the full leaked plot and ending of “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” surfaced on Marvel Studios Spoilers subreddit. The plot matched completely with the one shown in theaters, but the ending didn’t. The leaks mentioned that instead of Kang getting stuck in the Multiversal engine, he would have survived and escaped.

Instead, it was Hope and Scott who would have gotten trapped in the Quantum Realm by him. It should be noted that the part about Hope jumping back into the Quantum Realm to help Scott was accurate in the leaks and the film. In the leaked plot, Hank then guarantees Cassie and Janet that they will bring the two back anyhow.

Back in the Quantum Realm, Hope and Scott look out at the Quantum Realm as Hope tells her boyfriend that their family will find them. She also tells him that Cassie will know what to do. Back home, Cassie runs programs on various computers and she sees something on the screen that makes her gasp. The scene then goes black.

Was The Ending Really Changed?

If the leaks are to be believed, then the ending for “Ant-Man 3” really was changed. Also, the fact that the cast was called back to do reshoots in January 2023 also hints at the fact that the ending shown in the film was cooked up recently. The original theatrical ending seems tame compared to the one mentioned in the leaks. So why did Marvel Studios alter the dramatic ending?

After all, the leaked conclusion to the film seems ideal. Scott and Hope getting trapped gives the story more stakes and adds to the intrigue. Moreover, Cassie trying to get the duo out of the subatomic realm would have added to her character growth as well. Not to mention the fact that it would have solved the biggest gripe fans have with the film- Ant-Man beating Kang.

The threat of Kang was severely undercut by Ant-Man successfully defeating him. So why change a perfect ending? It could be because Ant-Man as a franchise has never had a sad ending to any of its previous movies. As such, they could have wanted to keep that streak going.

Also, after seeing Aunt May die in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” T’Challa die in “Black Panther 2,” and Jane die in “Thor 4” among other myriad character deaths in Phase 4, the makers might have wanted to end the streak of sadness. Also, Scott and Hope getting stuck in an subatomic realm only to come out during the big fight with Kang, is reminiscent of the plot with Thanos.

As such, Marvel Studios surely would have wanted to avoid it. So we got the happy ending with everyone celebrating Cassie’s birthday and eating a bad cake.
