Lucasfilm’s The Book of Boba Fett is heating up Star Wars fan spaces as it approaches its final episode. The latest episode of the Star Wars Disney+ show has captured everyone’s mind since the show brought in multiple cameos from all across the Star Wars canon.
This includes Grogu, Ahsoka Tano, Luke Skywalker, and Cad Bane. Bane was seen in The Clone Wars as a villain. The bounty hunter is well-known for being the very best marksman in the whole galaxy.
He showed up in episode 6 and made quite an entry by critically injuring Mos Espa’s deputy, Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth. It was really exciting to see a character who was part of Dave Filoni’s animated projects make the jump to live-action.
However, some didn’t like Bane’s live-action debut because the character didn’t look absolutely the same as his animated counterpart. The changes made to the character made some fans quite upset. So they made some edits of their own.
As a result of Cad Bane’s controversial live-action debut in episode 6 of The Book of Boba Fett, fans released a YouTube video showing an edit of what the famous bounty hunter should have ideally looked like.
The YouTube video was posted by Cinema Captures. It featured an edited version of Cad Bane during his fight with Cobb Vanth. The altered version shows Bane having darker blue skin, and also, his face looks a little longer.
Not many are upset about the changes made to Cad Bane in live-action. But it still needs to be said that the edited version does improve the character’s on-screen appearance.
The biggest issue till now has been the washed-out skin color. In The Clone Wars, Cad Bane had dark blue skin. But that can’t be seen here. In The Book of Boba Fett, we see a sun-bleached look.
Now, this along with that rounded head, made many fans of the character furious. Cinema Captures, who made the edited video tried to justify the changes made in the on-screen Disney+ version by saying that it’s due to the natural progression of age.
Cinema Captures said:
“I imagine the reason for his lighter skin color and different facial proportions are his age. But I saw a lot of people upset about it, so I quickly threw together this edit to show what he’d look like with the look we’re more familiar with.”

The Cad Bane result might be a case of Lucasfilm’s aversion towards fully CGI characters on their Disney+ shows. Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau has said before that they are trying to avoid CGI effects in the Disney+ shows as they are trying to capture the sort of handmade essence of the Star Wars Original Trilogy.
Filoni, Favreau, and others basically want to go back to practical effects with their Disney+ projects. However, CGI is obviously required here and there. But they just don’t want fully CGI characters.
However, sometimes CGI characters making the jump to live-action can be great for the show as well as the character. In Clone Wars, the proportions and art style are very stylized. As such, it’s going to be really hard to copy that through practice effects.
But a little CGI can help the character shine and avoid situations of fan discontent. You can check out Book of Boba Fett streaming now on Disney+.
